It was near balanced under Bubba Clinton, but the last two Uniparty presidents have screwed it up.

I overheard one dolt saying after the 2012 “reelection” of the disaster from Kenya that Obummer had done such a good job that both the annual deficit AND the national debt were falling. According to my understanding of accounting that is not actually possible. If the deficit is falling that means there has to be an annual deficit or it could not be reduced and if there is an annual deficit how could the debt be falling? If the national debt is falling how can there be a deficit?

The debt is the shortfall of income below expenses each year - the deficit is the accumulating amount owed which increases by however much is not paid for in each year’s budget - the deficit each year gets added to increase the debt which has almost doubled to nineteen trillion dollars under Obama - one bit of dipsey-doodle he pulled was to “borrow” close to a trillion dollars from anticipated Medicare spending to apply to make Obamacare look affordable - so even though Obamacare is turning out to be much more expensive than planned, on paper funds are transferred to the current year’s budget from Medicare to help keep the current deficit down, while the amount borrowed goes on to the debt, which might or probably won’t be paid for sometime in the future - at least that’s sort of how I understand it.....

How 'bout that Republican controlled Congress!?!!??

That is how it should be spun for the LIVs. Sure as hell wasn't Hussein's mismanagement of the economy.

Its unusual for the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) which is under Republican control, to release numbers that help a Democrat in the White House.
It is usually the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), which Obama controls that releases numbers more favorable to the administration.

Sorry - must have been drinking something - got ‘em backwards - deficit is the yearly shortfall - national debt is the accumulating amount - makes a bit more sense now....

They’re good, they have actually convinced some people that Obama has cut the deficit in half and reduced the debt at the same time. People believe what they want to believe, some believe that people who live on food stamps and other bennies, own nothing but have a smart phone and a big television are somehow better off than my grandfather who used to own hundreds of acres of land and timber and produced food for his large family on his own soil. He didn’t have a cellphone or a computer so somehow he wasn’t doing as well as modern wellfare bums. His sons could finish eighth grade and go to work at fourteen and wind up as married land and home owners with families but somehow they didn’t do as well as the young people of today who finish college and still live with their parents and have a huge student loan debt. They didn’t have a college degree you know so they were obviously ignorant and uneducated in spite of the fact that recent college graduates could not pass the eighth grade final that my father’s generation passed in the thirties. If I sound disgusted with what is going on now it is only because I am. If I were starting out young today I probably would wind up in prison. I truly feel sorry for young people now.

Wasn’t that the same ‘magic number’ they crucified Bush as ‘unpatriotic’?

Though, nary a peep from the GOP(e) either (’Masters of the Purse Strings); where the TRUE issue lies. I can’t really fault Dumbo for spending $$ he was given [w/out a fight, or minimal one(s)].

good point. Nobody that should- media, Republicans- remembers Obama slamming Bush on the debt.

This is why Boohoo needed to go - and why it’s so important to not get in a Boohoo-type replacement. I don’t see much chance of that though. I do see Trump as the only candidate willing to cut spending drastically- anyone who can run a primary campaign for 4 months on $200 million while getting the publicity he’s had is good with money!

LOL. Every year, Obama has run up the biggest budget deficits in our history. No President has ever run up a budget deficit as high as $435 billion except in 2008 by Bush 41 (the highest in his presidency), yet this is being portrayed as a "drop."

And the sequester is the main reason for the drop. Both parties are now ready to take the caps off and the deficits will balloon again.

Oh, I wouldn’t trust ‘em futher than I could throw ‘em....at least not without a good, strong catapult and a good ‘ol college TRY ;)

Unfortunately, not even Trump has the power to do much; it’s ALL on Congress (though, I hope/pray Trump would be the 1st to run out of veto pen ink)

I make a third of what I made before the Obama Depression and still less than I made in 1986.

Good Lord. They all have to go kicking and screaming to get anything done. Every President has had to do this.

Frankly, I wish they would stop "getting things done" and get things undone, like the deficit, debt, all social programs, withholding, anything that the states should be handling. etc., etc. etc.
