Tom Cole is GOPE. Boehner stays until there is a reconsideration for candidates who are now likely to be more willing to run for the Speaker of the House, with McCarthy out of the running. Chaffitz was barely interested, Webster was a low profile representative, somewhat like Hastert was, back when he won under stressful and similar circumstances.

All conservatives have ever asked for is to be a part of the agenda going forward, since they were the ones who WON elections and thereby put these guys in leadership.

Instead, a handful who were placed in leadership by these conservative victories still relegated the conservatives to the back of the bus.

Conservatives are still not in majority but they just want a fair representation at the table with Republican leadership. McCarthy would not cooperate to that extent, enough to satisfy the trust factor among 45 conservatives, reportedly.

"It’s time for the Tea Party Caucus to bring forth the bill declaring the Speaker’s chair vacant. There’s no reason why the election among the remaining candidates was postponed. Stop letting the Lame Duck drive the agenda."

there's no majority in the caucus for ANY candidate.

Before you go all "dictionary" on me, Webster can no more garner a majority than could McCarthy.

A true conservative can not get to 218. That is the main reason. The conservatives are simply asking for a leader who will give them a seat at the table that respects their numbers AND the fact that it was conservatives who put these Republicans in leadership by virtue of their conservative victories.

However, their victories did not put enough conservatives in the majority to ever hope to elect a conservative as Speaker.

They are looking at others, like Jim Jordan or this Daniel Webster guy, but whomever it is must compromise with conservatives enough to allow them a seat at the table.

Right now the Boehner types are doing everything in a smokey backroom. THAT is what conservatives in the House intend to stop. They want a Speaker willing to hear them and give them a vote on the agenda going forward.

Well to be honest, from his perspective, why would he? It’s a fact that to date, all the GOPe has to do is put pressure on their members and they fall into line and in turn we reelect those that do.

Bhoner hares his country. He openly sided with Obama. There is no reason for him to do anything but ride the Nuke down Strangelove style because we keep empowering him to do that very thing. Until we get OUR collective heads out of our arses and stop sending the GOPe more ‘lesser evils’, don’t expect any different than we see today.

The dismal legacy of Boehner’s leadership not only cost hum his job, but also his right hand man Cantor and now McCarthy.

It will be known as the Republican Dark Ages.

"Chaffetz or Jordan"

Both good choices.

But Webster? That's a joke, right? I know he has support, but I haven't a clue why. He can't see anything beyond Baptist Doctrine. That makes him a good man, but that's not enough to be Speaker.

The TEAnami wave of 2010 was to turn the tide on these establishment RINO’s.

They realized the threat then, and have been doing their level best to stop the TEA/conservatives, at any cost....even resorting to fighting them in their re-election campaigns harder than the RNC has ever fought the Dems.

Everything was getting back to business as usual and going great, for these GOPee’ers....they slapped the n00b Reps back into submission....until......Trump came on the scene. Trump has given confidence to We the People...a voice...like we’ve not had since 2010...when we were co-oped by opportunistic groups and the establishment.

We’re sick and tired of the same old, same old from these career politicians, who once they finally retire, go on to high paying lobbyist jobs. We’re sick of them putting $$ and power over Country and constituents.

McCarthy and Boehner need to leave their Leadership positions, immediately.

Hannity just asked Newt if he would run for Speaker? Newt said he wouldn't get the votes. . "This requires serious thought. . this is a serious sobering time in American History. . If the house conference wanted me to be helpful, I would always be available as a citizen to be helpful. . you show up with 218 votes, I'll talk with you. . I just heard about this 10 minutes ago. . the new speaker will have to very aggressive with the media. . the new speaker has to fight. . executive amnesty, I would cut off the money. . people don't understand what closing the government means. . you have to have a willingness to tell the President what you are doing is unconstitutional. . I would cut off funding. ." (I couldn't help thinking, he sounds like Trump. . a Fighter!)

Draft Newt!

Jordan hasn’t thrown his name in to the hat.

Webster announced first, then Chaffetz. It’s the best we’ve had....as no other conservatives, anywhere, offered to run.

I’ll take Webster over McCarthy or Boehner, any day.

‘But the Constitution says it can be done. Hey, even any FRper who posts here can be “Speaker of the House.”

Actually, it is silent on the issue, which one can interpret as being able to do so.

"Draft Newt!"

Newt is absolutely the right answer.

He's the most successful Republican Legislator in the last 100 years as a result of trench warfare and solid conservative principles.

All this talk of Allen West and Daniel Webster is pure, fantastic folly.

Jordan is another that would do well, but nothing like Newt.

But like Newt said, you have to walk in the door with 218 votes otherwise you have none.

You are onto the timing, exactly! Trump has started a revolution that is playing out where it needs to play out— at the feet of John Boehner and his crony, cloney replacements.

The numbers speak to the fact that we may not get a conservative Speaker, but this little House revolution demands a seat at the table, before anyone gets elected to the Speakership. THAT is the new threshold for electing a Speaker and the starting point going forward.

Tell that to the people when some congressman or senator drops out of a race at the last minute! Elections have consequences!

Congressional elections happen on a set schedule and are for set terms. The speaker is not elected for a set term, but serves, at least in theory, at the pleasure of the house. As the present circumstances demonstrate, having someone “win” without having the full and enduring support of a significant number of the people who end up voting for them is not a way to govern in the long run.

Re-nominating Boehner last October was flawed, as it did not allow those who were about to be elected to participate, and effectively used a procedural tactic to diminish opposition. Having a vote after a plurality candidate has unexpectedly dropped out without allowing some time for some soul-searching would be playing the same sort of games.
