House Democrat Alan Grayson files ethics complaint against McCarthy, Gowdy
CNN ^ | 07 Oct 2015 | Jeremy Diamond

Rep. Alan Grayson filed an ethics complaint Wednesday against House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy accusing the No.2 Republican of using taxpayer dollars to make political attacks against Hillary Clinton.

The Florida Democrat, who himself was the target of two ethics complaints this summer, accused McCarthy and Benghazi Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-South Carolina, of violating "federal law and House rules by using funds appropriated to the Select Committee on Benghazi to oppose the presidential candidacy of Hillary Clinton," according to the filing.

"This is a clear and unequivocal misuse of appropriated funds for political purposes," Grayson writes in the document, which calls on the Office of Congressional Ethics to investigate the two GOP officials specifically and not the committee.

The complaint comes a week after McCarthy, the No. 2 Republican, tied the House panel investigating the Benghazi attacks to a dip in Clinton's poll numbers.

Speaking Wednesday on CNN's "New Day," Grayson called McCarthy "execrable" and accused him of "bragging" about using federal funds for political purposes.

The committee has spent $4.6 million in federal funds over the course of its 17-month investigation and is set to release its final report in 2016.

"It's very simple. You're not supposed to use taxpayer funds for a political witch hunt," Grayson said, adding of the Benghazi controversy, "This is the scandal that never was."

McCarthy, who is vying to become the next House Speaker, made his comments last week on Fox News.

Hillary attack to abolish the Benghazi committee....

Her dirty hands with blood dripping off of them trying to save her butt because she needs to be in Prison...

She is such a slime, crawling down the streets that people sneer at and step around or spit on it....

'Would it help? Or, just give credence to loony Grayson?'

I care not if it helps Grayson, the point is to hold your own team accountable and to act in the best interest of the US.

Say whatever trash talk you want about McCarthy, but what stands out in this is that anyone who says the Benghazi tragedy, with our Ambassador and other citizens killed in a horrible manner, was “a scandal that never was”, is surely twisted and evil. The loved ones of those killed will have a hard time believing it “never was” a scandal, or, most accurately, cowardly treason.

I believe that he resurrected her candidacy. And I also believe that his remarks were no accident.

It was a stupid comment. But he did not say that the motivation behind the investigation was to destroy Hillary’s campaign. It is the truth getting out that is wrecking her.

She will. Her only judgment will come at the Great White Throne Judgment. When the Book of Life is opened and her works are revealed. And there will be not one decent deed to be found.

When Killery comes to testify, Gowdy should take some preemptive action because you just know her first statements are going to be that it’s “all political”.

Large pictures of the 4 killed, facing her table, would be a start.

You’re right about what SHOULD stand out, in all of this.

Unfortunately, McCarthy has given this a *Hall Pass* by offering a “Look!! Squirrel!!” bone to Hellary.

Time for the Freedom Caucus to knock out two birds, with one stone...and call out McCarthy (essentially removing ANY chance he has at Speaker) and RETURNING the importance of the topic BACK to the injustices committed against our Ambassador/private citizens ALLOWED by Hellary.

One, two punch. They best hurry.

Florida Rep. Alan Grayson back in court in bizarre ‘bigamy’ case

Florida Rep. Alan Grayson, an outspoken Democrat in the middle of an ugly divorce, was in family court today seeking to annul his marriage and protect his million-dollar fortune with an unusual argument: His wife, Lolita, was already married to another man when the two wed in 1990.

The trial, which was delayed in January after Grayson’s wife needed emergency surgery to remove a leaking breast implant, opened Monday in Orlando.

After Lolita Grayson filed for divorce in January 2014, Grayson responded by seeking an annulment on the grounds that there was never a legal marriage in the first place. According to the Associated Press, court papers show the congressman’s wife values her husband’s worth at $31 million.

“It’s conduct unbecoming of a congressman, let alone a decent human being.”

MARK LONGWELL, ATTORNEY FOR LOLITA GRAYSON

“Unbeknownst to Mr. Grayson, Lolita Grayson was still married to another man, and was not divorced or widowed,” the congressman’s April 2014 court filing states. The documents also accuse her of having “represented herself as single in order to induce Mr. Grayson to marry her” and describe their union as “bigamous.”

Based on those claims, Grayson is seeking custody of the couple’s five children, as well as “all of the money and property she has received” during their “purported” marriage.”

Bigamy is a third-degree felony in the state of Florida.

Court documents filed by Grayson claim his wife was already married to a man named Robert Carson; an accusation backed up by Florida court records showing Lolita did not obtain a judgment dissolving her previous marriage until March 1994.

Mark Longwell, an attorney for the lawmaker’s wife, strenuously denied those claims, arguing that she had divorced Carson in 1981 in Guam, and criticizing Grayson for “conduct unbecoming of a congressman, let alone a human being.”

“I keep hearing Alan Grayson’s attorneys villainizing Mrs. Grayson. They’re trying to position her as some sort of a fraud or a liar. That’s a ridiculous claim,” Longwell told msnbc. “Only after giving 29, almost 30 years of her life and raising five children and helping him accumulate enormous marital wealth — when she stood up for herself and said she wanted a divorce, his response was to use the most cutthroat legal tactic he can to try to deny her any of the rights of that marriage and to avoid the responsibilities he has to her.”

Longwell also cast doubt on his accusations, asking why a “very rich congressman” had so far been unable to find Carson, who he said lives nearby in Fort Lauderdale.

But Mark Nejame, an attorney for Grayson, called the issue with Carson “a smokescreen.”

“We found him, we know where he is, but he’s a recluse,” Nejame told msnbc. “That’s a smokescreen. It’s nothing more than an effort to hide the real issues, and that is that Lolita Carson was married to him when she married Alan Grayson and she didn’t get a divorce until four years later.”

“That’s a smokescreen. It’s nothing more than an effort to hide the real issues.”

According to Nejame, investigators found no evidence of any divorce with Carson in Guam. He added that Lolita claimed the records were destroyed in a fire, but that his office had confirmed that the clerk’s office never burned down. “Her credibility has been an issue from the very beginning,” he said.

Last March, Grayson’s wife accused him of assault for allegedly pushing her, but the local sheriff’s office declined to pursue charges after the congressman released cellphone video appearing to show it was he who was pushed. Grayson is seeking legal fees from his estranged wife for defamation and slander.

“They can jump up and down all they want, but we’ll get to the other issues once we resolve this cornerstone issue: Was she married to someone else when she married Alan Grayson, and, if so, then the marriage is voided,” Nejame said. “We’re simply wanting to get the truth out and allow the court to make an appropriate decision.”

Just wonderin’....

1) Wasn’t the committee established and started investigating long before Hillary announced her candidacy?

2) Would it still be operating had she & State Department not attempted to impede/obstruct the process of the investigation by ignoring and denying FOIA requests?

3) Is there no end to the rampant idiocy of the GOPe?

4) Do bears wipe themselves after going #2 in the woods?

God help us if the stupid party elects McCarthy as Speaker.

Levin was right when he said McCarthy is Cantor with 10 less IQ points.

McCarthy is an idiot.

Gee, Republicans can show proof of why Hillary needed investigating or better yet maybe it is time to do something real with those investigations like prosecute.

This is going to backfire if the republicans are not totally controlled by dems owning NSA files on them.

If Shakespeare's wish regarding lawyers comes true, Grayson should be among the first.

<><>Adam Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reported Grayson incorporated two separate funds in the Caymans Islands (a noted haven for money-laundering and tax evasion), the same kind of tax structure that Grayson ranted about WRT Mitt Romney. ================================================

A hearing was set to decide bigamy allegations in Grayson's infamous divorce case.

Grayson went to court to determine whether his 24-year marriage was valid in the first place, or if his wife was still legally married to another man when they wed.

**SNIP** Lolita Grayson filed paperwork accusing her husband of failing to pay her credit cards, refusing to provide financial support for their children. She also said, in an interview with WFTV-Channel 9 , that she had been forced to apply for a food-stamp card.(Excerpt) Read more at orlandosentinel.com ...

LINKED EXCERPT In filing for public assistance, Lolita Grayson said her monthly income consisted of $592 per child.

Alan Graysons’ attorney attributed her actions to politics the week before an election, telling WFTV his client pays about $10,000 a month for the mortgage, utilities and phone bill for the home. “This is abusing the public,” attorney Mark Nejame said. “She’s going out and asking for support because she can’t support herself on $120,000? That’s outrageous.”

Married to the bombastic congressman for 24 years, she filed for divorce early this year and it didn’t take long for things to get messy. There was a physical altercation at their home a short time later — she accused Grayson of battering her and he countered by saying she hit him. He would later charge his wife with bigamy while filing for an annulment of their 24-year marriage.

The Democratic lawmaker, a former trial lawyer, is not paying spousal support because he says the marriage was never valid because of the bigamy charge, WFTV reported.
