The debate team from New York's Eastern Correctional Facility has major bragging rights, after beating the national debate championship team from Harvard.
In September, the inmates invited the Harvard team to the Napanoch prison for a friendly match. The Eastern Correctional Facility team was formed two years ago, and the men take debate classes taught by faculty at Bard College; about 15 percent of the inmates are enrolled in different courses through the Bard Prison Initiative. "Students in the prison are held to the exact same standards, levels of rigor, and expectation as students on Bard's main campus," Max Kenner, executive director of the Bard Prison Initiative, told The Associated Press. "Those students are serious. They are not condescended to by their faculty."
Thanks for that...hysterical!
I feel like I just received a lobotomy after watching that “debate”. I’m embarrassed for all involved.
I don't think many people have any idea of what modern college "debates" look and sound like. I remember reading about some black debate team winning the national championship recently.
I watched the debate on YouTube. What I heard sounded like complete gibberish. All the teams, black and white, spoke at supersonic speed. Anybody not trained to understand modern debate tactics would not be able to make any sense out of what they were hearing.
BTW, when slowed down, the black team did actually speak gibberish. Everything was about white racism and, and to paraphrase John Derbyshire who also listened/watched the "debate," BLACKETY, BLACKETY, BLACK, BLACK, BLACK.
I loved that show.
That would explain why we now need to import really smart people.
Ain’t that the truth!?
The standards for debate ‘winners’ went out the window a few years back.
Take a look (these are actual videos) of our nation’s best:

I heard that Hugh Hewitt was going to have a role in the previous media event and he got very limited time compare to Jake Toe-tapper.
