How do you get off Facebook? This thread has convinced me to do that.

I managed to delete my account there, but don’t remember exactly how. I had to Google it, because I couldn’t find the information within Facebook.

The last time I was there (years ago) they had just put up
a sign off option on one of the pages. It wasn’t real easy
to see (by design, I think). For a long time, there was NO
way out that I could see. - I deleted all my “friends”,
didn’t “unfriend” them; just deleted. Probably didn’t have to do that; but I’d had some problems. Some of the
“friends” requests turned out to be sort of suspect. One
girl wrote asking me to meet her for a date. (I’ve been
married 51 years to a MAN! - and hadn’t done anything to
indicate I wanted a date with ANYONE!) - When I started
getting “friend” requests, I was afraid I might hurt
someone’s feelings if I told them NO. . and many of the
girls I’d gone to school with had married and had name
changes. After 40 or 50 years, you don’t always remember
classmates. - It has been a relief. I tried to do a
“status update” every so often; but, frankly, I don’t
really think most “friends” give a flying flip about
anyone else’s “status”. Facebook CAN eat up a lot of time
& if I want to correspond with anyone, there’s always the
U.S. Post Office or e-mail. - My work has decreased in
recent years; so I have to make an effort to find
something to occupy myself - or else take a NAP!

Did you get an answer?

I googled your question a year ago. I found a site that takes you through the steps. It required changing my FB identity, then selecting “delete.” It will tell you to stay out of FB until you are notified cancelling FB is successful.Process took about two weeks. I only include these steps so you can see getting off FB was not simple.
