John Locke centuries ago informed conservative thought that the most conservative ideals were life, liberty and property.
With his passionate support of Planned Parenthood and the Kelo decision, it is clear that Trump has no respect for conservatism. He will set the conservative movement back a generation and be an electoral disaster. He is nothing but a stand-in for Hillary.
I wish people would wake up that they are being duped.
Protections from what? People who want to stay in their homes? Who don't want to sell their property?
If the business developer wants protections, they should protect themselves. Don't invest millions in a project that requires the purchase of certain land unless you are damn sure you'll be able to purchase that land.
Trump was talking about factories, private business ventures. He made that clear.
Are you kidding? If low-info people made up Trump's base, they would have dumped him already for your amnesty supporting candidate.
What was public use development that was being built that needed her property?
GPH....that was brilliant response.
OR they can appeal to the State, which may or may not have laws and a constitutional system in place regulating eminent domain and attempt to seize/purchase the land legally. Then in court the old lady can explain why she needs 2 million dollars instead of one million, or why her sentimental love of that land is greater than the need to redevelop a slum.
Well said.
Thank you.
The "public use" only applies to the Federal government. Individual states may have whatever standard they like-- such as Public Purpose-- for setting up their own version of eminent domain. In which case, having a business that develops a blighted area or creates thousands of jobs is just as good a reason as building a highway so people can get to their jobs.
Good luck with wearing the cap. Last time I left my Swiftboat cap in the car, the whole (3-month-old) car was keyed. The destructive Tea Party wasn’t around then, so I wonder who did it/sarc.
What if she doesn’t have the resources to defend herself in court? is it your position that she’s SOL?

Well, Rooster poster, if you’re not mean and ugly, don’t say mean and ugly things like “Sorry your tiny farm was overrun by a shopping mall. Take your HUGE check and buy an new frikken farm.”
Those of us in the heartland don’t necessarily think that turning over the family farm to some developer is appealing or lawful or supportive of the freedoms my ancestors fought and died for.
If you are a nice person, speak nicely and treat other opinions with respect. You’re not representing your candidate well by being hateful.
You seem to have a little bit of a superiority complex yourself. Perhaps Trump’s presentation isn’t dumbed down, it is just wiser and smarter than you are.
Highways, yes. Redeveloping slums, no.
“...who are angry and love the pompous persona.”
What a complete waste of time that statement is.
I saw a bit of Krauthammer just now. He said about the same thing. The pundits always carefully avoid what makes Trump appealing.
I like Trump for what his campaign stances are. The only thing that matters is immigration. He is our last chance to save the country. The rest of the Republicans are for amnesty. If it happens, it is all over for this country as we have known it.
Something is wrong with any American who is NOT angry!!! We are losing our country. Did you hear Kasich today?
Show me where I have been mean? Give me a chance to explain.
The panel response was a bit guarded but polite...still not on his side.
What if a woman going to court to stop her home from being bulldozed to build a highway or a public hospital doesn't have the resources to defend herself in court? You still have the same problem, whether it's for public use or public purpose as determined by a State. Which is why the individual States should create legislation to protect people, while at the same time having reasonable laws and protections for everyone involved.
