There is an east solution. Don’t read the Trump threads, but I’m guessing you’re not mature enough to do that, right

Michelle, I am sure you are a great person, but your post makes my point. FR has always been a forum for open and frank discussion. I am troubled by the attempts at Bullying and censorship.

He is a billionaire. Most people have a limited vocabulary. What is holding them back? I would assume you don’t think your vocabulary is limited.

Trump did offer this lady and neighbors a million dollars for their property, all owners took the money GLADLY and moved, this lady ended up with NOTHING, designs were redrawn and BAM there she sat with her beat up old shack and ALL of her neighbors got big brand new homes with cash left over!!!!! What an idiot she was!!!!!!

Yup. She was an idiot, and could have walked away with a ton of money for a house that otherwise wasn't worth all that much. But it was her house, her property. And she wanted to live there. And the Constitution protects her property from seizure, even if any reasonable person would have sold.

Why does it matter why the owner of the house wants to keep their property? It's theirs. Period. End of story. It's called Conservatism.

So a business developer who just spent millions of dollars to develop the area has no protections either?

Amendment 5, last sentence: “nor shall private property be taken for public use without just compensation”.

People can debate and complain about eminent domain, but the need for it is recognized in the US Constitution. Without it, no major construction projects would ever be undertaken and completed: no new highways, or railways, or university expansions or anything that requires more than a small area, particularly in urban and suburban areas.

Find a real estate developer who is not a supporter of imminent domain.

Trump offered the one remaining “hold out” two million dollars. She refused. The two other “hold outs” received $2.1 and $1.9 million. Here is my post with the supporting links.

Oh yes, since you failed to counterpoint a single point from my long list of Trump points, now you want to attack my English? Just crawl back under whichever rock you crawled out of. I am done with your childish posts.

What’s the Donald even doing on Fox?

Obviously, you're not keeping up. That's old news.

The country cannot expand without eminent domain.

Should it expand? That's not the question...or is it?

First of all, Ms. Coking did not want more money, she wanted to stay in the house she had lived in for 35 years. And, again, it’s her property. She has no obligation to move from her property because it would be in the “greater good” for her to do so (which wasn’t even the case here). We do not live in a socialist society, after all, we live in one that respects property rights.

It’s really quite shocking to me to see your line of reasoning on a site like this, frankly.

First of all, Ms. Coking did not want more money, she wanted to stay in the house she had lived in for 35 years.

Which explains why it was still sold, although for less than what was offered!

She has no obligation to move from her property because it would be in the “greater good” for her to do so

Eminent domain is in the bloody constitution. With that logic, no property can ever be bought by the state, since there is no public purpose big enough to merit it!

We do not live in a socialist society

The founding fathers are socialists?

Sure they do. They own their property and have the right to do what they will with in within the law.

You don’t have to have a big vocabulary to be a billionaire, but I don’t really think that’s what’s going on with Trump’s dumbed-down presentation.

His name-calling and “great” and “greatest” message is more likely aimed at the low-info part of the conservative base, who are angry and love the pompous persona. Seems condescending to me, but that is beside the point. It’s working for him so far.

I hope there’s more to Trump. We’ll see.

Sure they do. They own their property and have the right to do what they will with in within the law.

And the State has its constitutional right to setup laws and a system wherein property can be seized for public purpose for a reasonable cause, such as highways, or redeveloping slums.
