People in the South spent as much or more in The Bible searching for answers to the quandry, Slavery is mentioned often in the Bible and not in the ways that many would have you think. Back in the 1970s, my high school mascot was "The Rebels." We had Confederate battle flags all over school and our fight song was "Dixie".
The politically correct thought police still permit them to be called the Rebels (for now) but every reference to the Confederacy has been erased.
