He's probably had this problem for quite some time yet waited until the playoffs to do something about it?

I’m guessing the Yankees told him he wouldn’t pitch much in the playoffs, or were even leaving him off the roster.

Doing now probably means he realizes how urgent it is to get help. When someone is ready to get sober he should not delay for any reason. I wish him well and will pray for him.

Great News! ...hope he gets the help he needs.
I'm sure John Boehner can recommend something.

$23,000,000 a year will buy a lot of beer.

I’m a Red Sox gal, so it’s extremely rare for me to have a kind word for a Yankee!
In this case, however, an exception must be made. When an alcoholic asks for help, there is no good reason to wait or put it off.
May this man go with God and find his way to recover. If he’s done with the madness, he can have a wonderful sober life.

Perhaps putting himself into rehab freezes him on the roster??

When your living room features its own bar, could that be a sign?
Seriously, I would love to have a "man cave" like this.

More than a few Yankees have had drinking or drug problems—Billy Martin, Steve Howe. What was Mickey Mantle’s fave part of the game? Bottom of the fifth.
