Kremlin Says Russian ‘Volunteer’ Forces Will Fight in Syria

MOSCOW — Russia signaled deepening intervention Monday in the Syria war, strongly hinting that its “volunteer” ground forces would soon be fighting there, as NATO officials warned the Kremlin after a Russian warplane invaded Turkey’s airspace.

The unfolding developments reflected a dangerous new superpower entanglement in the war, which has left a quarter-million dead and half the country’s population displaced since it began more than four years ago.

The addition of Russia ground forces to the aerial assaults already underway by Russian warplanes particularly threatens to undermine Turkey’s Syria policy, which aims for the establishment of a “safe zone” along the Turkish border where some Syrian refugees could return in the future.

.

Echoes of the Spanish Civil War ...

and the Red Chinese “volunteers” crossing the Yellow River to defeat the United States in the Korean War ...

And why did Hitler support Franco in the Spanish Civil War ?

To bottle-up the British Navy in the Mediterrean ... and ultimately take Egypt, The Suez Canal and Greece ...

Here we go, Boyz ...

Don’t think there’s a word in Russian for “volunteer”.

Vacationing in Ukraine every year gets really old. Syria will be a nice change of scenery.

Although President Vladimir V. Putin has ruled out sending ground forces to Syria, a senior Kremlin defense official told Russian news agencies on Monday that military veterans who had fought in eastern Ukraine would likely start showing up as “volunteer” ground forces in Syria.

The statement by the official, Adm. Vladimir Komoyedov, head of the armed forces committee in Russia’s Parliament, asserted that such volunteers “cannot be stopped.”

Komoyedov sounds like their version of Senator McCain. Maybe we should put the two of them in a room to fight it out.

Yep, and Ivan will establish as much of a “beach head” as they can before America gets a real Commander-in-Chief. Pray that we do.

The Russian Foreign Legion is forming up, and taking enlistments right now....

Got to get Damascus and secure it before the Iranians arrive. While the Iranians are technically “allies” of Russia, they might be a little tough to dislodge once they acquire a base there.

But if the Iranians take over Baghdad, that might be close enough.

Seeing Kerry and Obama having a serious discussion is scary.

What further idiocy are they cooking up?

доброволец - volunteer, masculine. You can see by presence of "вол" that it may be borrowed...

"Many poorly trained Russians are about to die"

They still follow the old Stalin adage, "A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic"

Yes, but lots of ISIS fighters are going to die as well as Russians. Russia doesn’t suffer from “Body-Bag-aphobia” that plagues the USA. The Russians want Victory—and with Assad as an allie—they do not need to hold the land and they do not plan to “Change the state or culture” They don’t care if girls go to school or if Gays are given rights. They go in to crush ISIS and all who oppose Assad. Then Leave!
