Doctors Without Borders: 19 dead in Afghan clinic airstrike

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Confusion reigned in the wake of the deadly bombing Saturday of a hospital compound in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz that killed at least 19 people and wounded dozens more. It remains unclear exactly who bombed the hospital run by Doctors Without Borders and the international medical charity has demanded an investigation into the incident.

Doctors Without Borders said that "all indications" pointed to the international military coalition as responsible for the bombing and called for an independent investigation. U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said an inquiry was underway into whether the carnage at the clinic was caused by an airstrike from an American fighter jet, while Afghan officials said helicopter gunships had returned fire from Taliban fighters hiding in the compound.

Afghan forces backed by U.S. airstrikes have been battling the Taliban street-by-street in Kunduz since Thursday to dislodge insurgents who seized the strategic city three days earlier in their biggest foray into a major urban area since the U.S.-led invasion of 2001. The insurgents have had the city encircled for months, and overran it in a surprise assault that embarrassed the U.S.-backed Afghan government and called into question the competence of the U.S.-funded Afghan armed forces.

In fact, Afghanistan may be sitting on an estimated trillion dollars of mineral deposits.

If I were a grunt stationed there, I’d be at the local bazaars buying tourmaline and mailing it home. Well-cut tourmaline starts at about $100 per carat and can retail for as much as $30,000 per carat.

Obama must have found out they were treating christians at that hospital. He’s “really good at killing people”, (his words.)

We don’t have a free and independent press. We have a propaganda apparatus. It includes all media, cable and network tv, books, music, sports, internet, computer games. All media. The constant theme seems to be violence and moral depravity.

Putin takes out the ISIS headquarters in less than a week, and 6 months into the campaign, Obama takes out a hospital killing doctors and patients. ... Does anybody else think the US might have a problem?

Didn’t I read yesterday this bombing was done by our own aircraft?? And that we, the people of the US, are going to be paying the victims through the nose for this mistake - acting on another case of poor intelligence.

Thank you for telling it like it is! The Western World has been under sustained attack since 1978. WHEN are people going to wake up to the fact that we are losing our Western Culture?

"This is classic Putin, cause the chaos and then jump in and say that he can clean up the chaos?”

That is classic projection. Accuse the other of doing/being exactly what you are. It's always a good idea to keep an eye on this sort of thing to get an accurate read of what the left is up to. If you ever hear the news media start accusing conservatives of cannibalism, you'll know that they are eating people.

Except enormous poppy fields that both Bush and Obama refused to burn to the ground to shut off the revenue.

Yes, they have that but you can BET that the land owners there rule with an iron fist and don't let the "peasants" get profit.
The same is true of all the countries which grow/make drugs for the USA and West. The Mexican President IS the leader of the drug cartel. THAT was/is/always will be the source of his power.

The third world drug-producing sewers are all run by just a few EXTREMELY wealthy and powerful family who control the land, banks, military and government.

Supply and demand: the West and USA want the drugs. We are the biggest users so as long as there is the demand the third world sewer despots are delighted to supply.
Pretty simple, isn't it?

They are a land-locked country with NOTHING, absolutely nothing
Even so, they will come up with things to be proud about:
1. "I have the finest dirt floor in all of Kabul."
2."Nonsense, my hut has the finest Persian powder."

True enough.
They can also be proud of their children, proud of their green eyes (some have them), proud of someone in their family.

Tourmaline is pretty and your idea is great.
I wonder if you would be allowed to do what you planned. I'm positive others had that idea also.
It's possible that the rulers/leaders thought of that already and have folks around to deal with that.

Tribal fealty runs deep, I assume, and watching eyes are probably everywhere, especially on foreigners.

Maybe I'm dead wrong.

In fact, Afghanistan may be sitting on an estimated trillion dollars of mineral deposits.

Maybe they do but I seriously doubt if the money from all those semi-precious gemstones would go into any other pockets than those of the few families who are already obscenely wealthy, powerful and well-connected.

=====================================

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tourmaline
Tourmaline (/ˈtʊərməliːn/ toor-mə-leen) is a crystalline boron silicate mineral compounded with elements such as aluminium, iron, magnesium, sodium, lithium, or potassium. Tourmaline is classified as a semi-precious stone and the gemstone comes in a wide variety of colors. The name comes from the Tamil and Sinhalese word "Turmali" (තුරමලි) or "Thoramalli" (තෝරමල්ලි), which applied to different gemstones found in Sri Lanka.
