As I recall, didn’t the shooter in Columbine also ask this of the students?

Yes, one of them asked a girl if she was a Christian...she replied yes, he asked “Why?!?!?” and shot her. The story has been disputed though another student may have had a similar story...

Wiki:
Cassie René Bernall (November 6, 1981 – April 20, 1999) was a student killed in the Columbine High School massacre at age 17. Initial reports suggested that Eric Harris asked if Bernall believed in God moments before she was fatally shot. She was reported to have answered “Yes”. This story led to Bernall being presented as a martyr by some Christians, and served as the inspiration for several songs...In the months following Bernall’s death, her mother, Misty Bernall, released the book She Said Yes: The Unlikely Martyrdom of Cassie Bernall. In this book Misty describes her daughter’s turbulent teenage life, spiritual conversion and martyrdom.

>>Most examinations of witness testimony state that Bernall was not asked anything before she was shot. According to witness Emily Wyant, who was hiding under the same table as Bernall, Eric Harris said “peek-a-boo” before shooting Cassie, while Cassie continued to pray silently. It has been documented that a similar exchange took place between Dylan Klebold and Valeen Schnurr, another student who was wounded in the library that day. Some have speculated that this exchange was mistakenly attributed to Bernall.

>>Myth #6: Cassie Bernall was martyred for her faith in God. Truth: According to the eyewitness under the table with her, Cassie was shot when Eric poked his shotgun under the table and said, “Peekaboo.” The 911 tape verifies this testimony. The martyr story arose from the testimony from another student in the library, Craig Scott (brother to victim, Rachel Scott), who recounted a conversation that took place across the room. Valeen Schnurr was the one who actually professed her faith in God, and this took place after she was shot. As she lay bleeding, she prayed, “Oh my God, don’t let me die.” Dylan turned around and asked her, “God? Do you believe in God?” Valeen said, “Yes, I believe in God.” When the killer asked why, she replied, “Because it’s how my parents raised me.”

Yes, the Columbine killers also targeted the students who drew a sense of purpose from their Faiths. I believe that aspects of this hatred has shown up more often than actually reported.

The Leftist conditioning, which is sometimes simply dismissed as being "politically correct," has destroyed the sense of purpose of millions of young Americans. Purposeless, living for the moment, denied all the motivations that have inspired good behavior throughout the human experience, some of them do indeed go over the edge.

I have been trying to make the point for quite a few years. For example, speaking of Columbine: "Something Of Value".

The Western cultural heritage, which the Left has been trying to destroy for over a Century, worked well, because it was forged from experience in what actually worked for human betterment. The hate based system that has been replacing it, will never do as well. It is based entirely on a sick denial of natural reality.
