ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A homeless man fashioned a machete-like blade to a groomed tree branch and speared a hungry black bear cub that was sniffing for food Friday morning at an illegal camp site in Anchorage.

The cub, estimated to be about a year and a half old, and an older bear thought to be its mother had been at the camp site for days stealing food, authorities said.

I was in a boy scout troop with similar minded leaders who were Vietnam vets in the early 70’s in So. FL. Their idea of good times were the deepest, most remote parts of the everglades and big cypress swamp.

im glad you survived your camping misadventure. I’m glad you shared it. I daresay you could have been the kid in a story from a Chuck Swindoll sermon. :D

Here it is.

The homeless have mental issues.

For example, who among us would spear a bear cub knowing the mama bear was nearby?

Although I made a spear out of a broken lawnmower blade, when I was a young teen.

Isn’t it amazing what we went through back then? But that kind of stuff made me fearless. We sue to go down the Delaware river canoing as well in April and it would be absolutely freezing, the canoe would tip over and I felt like I was drowning and dying and then we’d freeze in these tents, I was only 12! LOL LOL. Today if they did that with Boy Scout troops they’d be sued out of existence..

I’ve always wondered why that movie wasn’t shot in Brooklyn.

No one needs an assault spear. We need common sense spear laws.
