A little late for that, it seems.
The first Syrian-Russian-Iranian offensive seems to be aimed directly at the Obama-backed rebels in Hama and Homs, and should kick off in the next day or two, if it hasn’t already.
I'm not convinced the Russians wouldn't hit ANY "rebel" force in those areas.
Their stated objective is to ensure the survival of the Assad regime and the institutions of governance.
That starts with a clear logistical path from Latakia/Tartus to Damascus. Anything unfriendly in that path will be neutralized first.
From Russia's and Assad's point of view, all the rebels are the same, without regard to race, religion or national origin.
