Political newcomer Ben Carson raised more than $20 million in the past three months to fuel his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, his campaign said Wednesday, a haul of campaign cash that shatters records and sets a new bar for his GOP rivals.
As other campaigns scrambled to bring in final donations before the end of the fundraising period at midnight, Carson's senior team celebrated its massive haul at its suburban Washington campaign headquarters.
Two dozen staffers shared a red, white and blue chocolate cake topped with frosted numbers "$31,000,000" - the total amount the retired neurosurgeon's campaign has raised since he launched his White House bid in May.
"You know, the pundits all said that we would never be able to mount a national campaign for financial reasons, but here we are approaching 600,000 donations," Carson told The Associated Press while campaigning in New Hampshire. "The people have gotten involved, and that's something I think they probably never anticipated."
The day was a culmination of an extraordinary run for Carson, who tapped the wave of anti-establishment sentiment to raise $12 million in September alone, said campaign manager Barry Bennett.
Flush with cash, Bennett said the campaign initiated plans Wednesday to begin reserving television ad space across the South for primary contests scheduled for early March.

And Right To Rise says they won't say how much they raise until they are forced to report in January.
More bad news for Jeb.
“Illegal Amnesty” Ben ...
Ben spends half the money he brings in on fundraising expenses and he also likes to live large while campaigning. But it’s still bad press for Jeb to be outraised almost 2-1 by Carson. And Jeb has big expenses, too.
This is a good thing. People like Ben for the right reasons, but he does seem politically naive. I have trouble seeing him doing much to roll back government.
I’m still hoping for Cruz, but something about his personality doesn’t connect with people.
please provide citations for your statements that seem to be lies
Just curious, do you have any back up on that statement? And is 50% return on fund raising the norm or not? I would think most of his money poured in this month based on the strong stance he took on Sharia Law and the Presidency. I would think the ROI was extremely high this month at least.
GOPe donors giving a boost to the “Trump alternative”?
Yes...his persona is off-putting to many. I like him because of it. I don't need him to be my friend, I need him to do the job. And maybe that's his "problem" is that people know that he will do what he has campaigned on.
Fundraising is a large cost for any campaign. Here’s some info on Carson’s fundraising......
Republican Ben Carson raised more than $20 million in the third quarter of the year, more
than twice the amount he brought in over the previous quarter, his campaign said Wednesday.
In the second quarter of the year, Mr. Carson raised $8.3 million. His campaign filing in
July revealed that of the $10.6 million Mr. Carson had raised since March, he had spent
about half of it, with 72% of his spending going to fundraising costs. Details of his spending
in the third quarter wont be available until Mr. Carson files with the Federal Election
Commission on Oct. 15.
Yes. I cannot see Ben Carson doing this ... Sen. Cruz: The Real Story of What Is Happening in Washington
Im still hoping for Cruz, but something about his personality doesnt connect with people.
And I hear the same from folks that I talk with. Hopefully this disconnect will dissipate over time. None of it involves substance whatsoever. American Idol culture.
