I actually do agree with that theory. That Stevens was to be taken and kept alive as a hostage to be used by Morsi in trade for the Blind Sheik in U.S. custody (by the way, is there ANY proof he's still in custody?) 8 weeks before the 2012 election just in case Romney got elected.
The SEALs ignored orders and the hostage-takers felt double-crossed and the plan was ruined.
