Rep. John Fleming, R-La., said Wednesday morning that Tea Party favorite Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., won't run for a fourth term, and instead plans to retire at the end of the current Congress to return to his home state.
"Trey wants to go back to South Carolina, and God bless him for that," Fleming said on C-SPAN. When asked if that's what Gowdy has told other Republicans, Fleming confirmed it.
"At the end of his term, yes," he said. "He plans to go back home, and he wants to finish his work on the Benghazi special committee. But he loves South Carolina and he loves his family, and he wants to go back and spend the rest of his life there."
"He'll be sorely missed," he added.

Interesting.
Amen. Perpetual office holders should not be the aspiration. Rather let’s hope the good people in his district send another of similar character in his place.
Is South Carolina big enough to have an “upstate?”
Perhaps he is going back to work on future secession?
My thoughts, too. Or illness.
Making sure the “investigation” goes nowhere.
And possibly supporting amnesty for illegal aliens.
Positioning himself for Governor of SC for two terms and then a run for POTUS. (If the country survives that long)
So “Trey” what was it, “Live Boy OR Dead Horse”?
Whether on purpose, or just incidentally, the Republicans are taking the politics out of the Benghazi investigation of Hillary and Obama.
“Come after me, and I’ll have you destroyed in the next election!”
“You can’t. I’m not running. See you in court, traitor.”
I don’t know, could be...
There are some questions here...he could be getting out of the mess now, so he can serve as Trump’s A.G.
He could be getting out of the mess because of the Benghazi problem and he’s not really getting any backing...we all know pretty what happened there, but reading what the lying media and talking heads tell us are two different things..
Or like you say, ‘blackmail’ but I think he would fight back if that was the case, or maybe he will when he’s out of office...
Trey would make a great AG. He could go after the Clinton Foundation excesses and law breaking.
He wants to leave this pressure to go back home and make money.
Speaking engagements alone would be an awesome source of revenue.
How many here would love to see this guy in a group of motivational business people speaking the way Trump did before running?
Well, perhaps the gentleman from Louisiana spoke too soon. Gowdy’s spokesperson says it’s not true, and that He has not made any announcement on 2016.
Trey Gowdy will be the next Attorney General of the United States under either Trump or Cruz. Why shouldn’t he leave Congress for a step up, and Gowdy is being an early straight shooter about it so that his replacenment in Congress will share his conservative political views. Besides, he was instrumental in getting rid of Boehner, so he has done a good job, and now must work to make sure the next House Speaker is from Texas.
The dice are now being cast in the grass roots Republican movement.
The Boehner GOPrats are abandoning the sinking ship.
Boy I called it on this guy. I knew I was over the target because I caught all kinds of flak here on FR.
That would be remarkable.
He has been on local talk radio here in SC and has said it was very frustrating trying to get info, emails etc from the State dept.
He has always said he planned to return to SC and serving in the house was not a life long “profession” for him.
I think he had a good look at the dysfunction of the GOP party and decided enough was enough.
Well to be accurate Trey Gowdy will be eligible at age 62 for a pension of $17,588.00 per annum. Generous but not opulent.
If that’s correct, and I have no reason to doubt you, you are right..not opulent. Isn’t healthcare tacked on?
BUT that opulence or lack of it wasn’t the point. The point is, I’m afraid he’s more of a system guy than we thought (or think). BTW, the person who told me this is a friend of his, and he himself was disappointed to find this out.
