5:50 p.m.

A U.S.-backed Syrian rebel group has claimed that Russian warplanes have hit its positions in central Syria.

The group, known as Tajamu Alezzah, wrote scornfully on Twitter Wednesday that “eradicating terrorism appears to begin with attacks” on its locations in the central city of Latamna in the province of Hama.

The group, which boasts of having TOW missiles, didn’t provide specific details on the targets or how it can ascertain the strikes were by Russian jets.

Washington has equipped and trained a number of moderate Syrian rebel groups but most have been crushed by al-Qaida’s affiliate in Syria.

5:35 p.m.

A Syrian military official says Russian warplanes have targeted positions of the Islamic State group in central Syria.

Syrian state TV quotes an unnamed military official as saying that the air raids are part of the “Russian-Syrian agreement to fight international terrorism and wipe out the Daesh organization.”

The official used an Arabic acronym to refer to the Islamic State group.

The official said on Wednesday that the air raids targeted the extremists’ positions in central Syria including the areas of Rastan and Talbiseh, as well as areas near the town of Salamiyeh in Hama province.

You are (sadly) correct. However ISIS is a threat to Assad, which makes Putin’s declared intentions to take on ISIS completely logical.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Putin will not go into Iraq. He will let the Iranians mop that up, and so it looks really bad for the Christian ,Yazidhi and the Kurd minorities in Iraq. Thank you Mr. Bat-eared idiot president for your empowerment of future genocide and for your “Nobel Peace Prize.” What a joke. Obama amounts to less than a skid mark on the underwear of the American body politic.

6:05 p.m.

A senior U.S. official says Russia’s airstrikes in Syria did not appear to be targeting the Islamic State group, but other opposition groups fighting against Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The official said IS militants are not in the western part of the country, beyond Homs, where the Russian strikes were directed.

The official was not authorized to discuss the Russian airstrikes publicly so spoke on condition of anonymity.

There is no moral equivalence between Putin the dictator and our Republic. Obama is gone in 17 months. Comparing Putin to Obama is apples to oranges. Obama is a terrible leader who is undermining and transforming this country, but we are dealing with Russia and American strategic national interests. I am rooting for America in this fight.

You two seem to be complaining over spilled milk. To paraphrase Hemingway, “How did your country fail? Two ways. Gradually, then suddenly.”

The events leading up to this situation have been decades in the making. Perhaps the rot first manifested itself with the election of the chief grifter, but Iraq instead of SA after 9/11 was a special form of misdirection of force/effort. Hussein is an indictment of the people themselves; in essence national suicide. His disruptive MENA policy set the stage for others to assume the posture of positive roles.

In the final analysis, I believe Crimea will prove to our Waterloo. Syria is just the follow up act, to be continued by a series of logical, progressive moves throughout the region. Nukes will prove to be useless, resulting in - as usual - force of will to be the determining factor. 20+ years overseas, and the American people are spent & done. Compare that to the Russians & Chinese, who have generations of humiliation to be atoned.

The true death knell will be the eventual demise of the petro-dollar. That's why SA is the true strategic linchpin. I think the smart money already knows this. Once we can't print our way out of trouble, then the true social/internal security impact of open borders will really begin to be felt. The eventual fragmentation of the states would be the final nail in the coffin.

Some will say this could have been avoided, but I think historians might have a view of inevitability. After all, how was Clinton elected? What events led to the country being so morally/intellectually weakened even at that stage? You can keep going back, perhaps locating the poison pill that set our current events into motion.

What I believe is going on here is that Obama INTENTIONALLY failed to more aggressively take on ISIS for the specific purpose of allowing Putin the opportunity to move his forces in and ultimately take control of it and eventually the rest of the Middle East. Obama comes from a long line of people sympathetic to the old Soviet Union. In fact, his childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, whom he refers to as "Uncle Frank" in his book 'Dreams From My Father', used to write poems glorifying the Soviet army.

Barack Obama, from Dreams from My Father, Three Rivers Press, New York, Revised Edition, 2004, ISBN 1-4000-8277-3, p. 76-7:
"But by the time I met Frank [Frank Marshall Davis] he must have been pushing eighty, with a big, dewlapped face and an ill-kempt gray Afro that made him look like an old, shaggy-maned lion. He would read us his poetry whenever we stopped by his house, sharing whiskey with Gramps out of an emptied jelly jar."

Obama’s Red Mentor Praised Red Army
AIM Report | By Cliff Kincaid | April 30, 2008

Barack Obama’s childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, a member of the Moscow-controlled Communist Party USA (CPUSA), wrote a poem dedicated to the Soviet Red Army. “Smash on, victory-eating Red Army,” he declared. He also wrote poems attacking traditional Christianity and the work of Christian missionaries.

The “Red Army” poem goes beyond hoping for the communists to beat the Nazis in World War II and hails the Soviet revolution. It says:

Show the marveling multitudes
Americans, British, all your allied brothers
How strong you are
How great you are
How your young tree of new unity
Planted twenty-five years ago
Bears today the golden fruit of victory!

Obama’s Communist Mentor
AIM Column | By Cliff Kincaid | February 18, 2008

excerpt...

"through Frank Marshall Davis, Obama had an admitted relationship with someone who was publicly identified as a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The record shows that Obama was in Hawaii from 1971-1979, where, at some point in time, he developed a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis, listening to his 'poetry' and getting advice on his career path. But Obama, in his book, Dreams From My Father, refers to him repeatedly as just 'Frank.'

The reason is apparent: Davis was a known communist who belonged to a party subservient to the Soviet Union. In fact, the 1951 report of the Commission on Subversive Activities to the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaii identified him as a CPUSA member. What's more, anti-communist congressional committees, including the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), accused Davis of involvement in several communist-front organizations."

Frank Chapman, a CPUSA supporter, has written a letter to the party newspaper hailing the Illinois senator's victory in the Iowa caucuses:

"Obama’s victory was more than a progressive move; it was a dialectical leap ushering in a qualitatively new era of struggle. Marx once compared revolutionary struggle with the work of the mole, who sometimes burrows so far beneath the ground that he leaves no trace of his movement on the surface. This is the old revolutionary 'mole,' not only showing his traces on the surface but also breaking through."

0bama is most certainly the equivalent to Putin, only worse. More than half of the US population is against what 0bama is doing.

He violates his oath of office daily, ignores US law, and targets American citizens for punishment if they disagree with him.

0bama is starting wars around the world to further his muzzy agenda.

And America is totally unable to get “in this fight” until he is gone.

You don't believe the US has lost/squandered significant moral authority throughout the world? First Libya, now Syria - it seems to be the final straw. The disruption - in humanitarian terms - is providing the means for Russia to assume a mantle of positive force.

You can argue until you're blue in the face, but until you can convince people in other countries that we're still the "good guys", we are witnessing the slow beginnings of the beginning.

And I think our inside people know this. The only option is war with not one, but two+ nuclear equipped adversaries. We won't pull the trigger, and they will simply but surely continue filling the void.

To be honest, one can be fairly stoic/philosophical about this: was the USA to last forever? If not, when/how would it decline? Aren't all the pieces that one would cite now in position? So why would anyone be surprised that it's occurring now?

He doesn't have a "muzzy" agenda. He's an atheist, a communist. He only, on occasion, pretends to have a religious faith. The 'church' he sat in for 20+ years advocated communist-concocted Liberation Theology. It was repeatedly condemned by previous popes (not so much the current one).

"the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the [20th] century" -Russian leader Vladimir Putin on the collapse of the Soviet Union...

"World democratic opinion has yet to realize the alarming implications of President Vladimir Putin's State of the Union speech on April 25, 2005, in which he said that the collapse of the Soviet Union represented the 'greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century.'..."

"The more I see and read about Mr. Putin, in power since 1999, and his 'managed democracy,' the more apprehensive I become about the future of Russia and the safety of its neighbors.

If Putin believes that the dissolution of the Soviet Union into 15 independent states represents the 'greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century,' then it follows that Putin might well believe he should do something to repair the loss..."

0bama is most certainly the equivalent to Putin, only worse. More than half of the US population is against what 0bama is doing.

Obama was elected twice with the two highest vote totals in US history. Despite his executive actions and autocratic behavior, Obama is constrained by the Constitution, the courts, and Congress. We can argue why the other branches of government have failed to act on Obama's unconstitutional actions, but Putin has no such constraints. He is a dictator who has run the country essentially since 1999.

And America is totally unable to get “in this fight” until he is gone.

Totally unable? Tell that to the guys in Afghanistan or those flying bombing missions over Iraq and Syria. Americans are in harms way right now. We need to do more, but it is dishonest to say that we are not in the fight.
