OTOH, the first paragraph of the article does point in the right direction tax-policywise. Here it is again:
"Republicans ought to be demanding an end to progressive taxation in this country—a flat tax at minimum, with a potential move down the line to a consumption tax eventually if that can be done. We shouldn’t be settling for a simple whittling of tax brackets from seven to four. And we absolutely shouldn’t be exempting anyone from federal income tax while we have such a tax at all. We have far too many people in this country who don’t vote like taxpayers; how do you think a no-talent hack like Obama managed to become president?"
Why is a consumption tax a good idea?
Because everyone, even Democrats and undocumented aliens will be required to support the government. Right now they are exempt. Not fair. A National Sales Tax would mean we all pay for the the Government Goodies in proportion to our expenditures. That would mean that even the big drug lords would be helping support the bloat in D.C.
That makes absolutely no logical sense, zip zero nada. People like me can't possibly "keep Jeb in it" because we'd NEVER support Jeb under any circumstance. If it comes down to Jeb V Trump only, I think most if not all of us warning about Trump's liberalism and cronyism will support Trump - thus we cannot POSSIBLY be the cause of anything pro Jeb.
But it's not there now. I get it. You're OBSESSED with Jeb - and you think Trump is the only alternative. It's totally wrong, but I get your obsession. I just do not share it.
In fact, Lakeshark and I have said for many months Jeb is going nowhere. This predates the Trump thing by months. My prediction is looking pretty damned good at this moment.
Nah, I am a Cruz person all along. But that is not to say that with the obvious media and establishment blackout on Cruz, that I am not loving the CAT D9 at least getting the people’s interest where there was none before.
The only variable in this whole thing is that Trump actually believes he can “nudge” things through that typical politicians are afraid to venture through.
We are still early and as the field is sure to cull very soon, Cruz is in the next best situation, aside from the Trump media allure, that will begin to shine as he is now seen as the one who is already taking the fight to the establishment. They can’t censor him in the debates and he will have more time as each debate comes to pass.
Now, for CW and her posting. I totally mistrust anything that comes out of Kristol’s mouth or editorial management. Propagating anything from them is tantamount to blowing the trumpet for the establishment.
How did you arrive at this?
I wish Trump supporters would take a longer look at what this guy is proposing and how he wanders away from positions he takes. His whole campaign approach has been treated like a personal vendetta because he is not conservative nor thinks like one.
Actually, no it's not, unless they are pushing an establishment line at the moment. But that's not the point - you still seem remarkably obsessed with the source of an idea over the idea itself. This is FTR, BEFORE he gets into the oxygen thing: I actually like a lot of what Trump has done since getting in the race. He has taught the Republican Party, which is dominated in Washington by a horde of beta males and crying drunks, how to win news cycles again. Newt Gingrich was the last Republican holder of high office with a talent for consistently doing that.
And Trump has given voice to what a lot of people, myself included, believe — that this country is led by profoundly stupid people; educated stupid people, to be sure, but profoundly stupid nonetheless. You can’t look at a John Kerry and not see gross stupidity there, and his predecessor who thought it would be a good idea to store the nation’s state secrets on a server in a bathroom closet of a Denver apartment is a profoundly stupid individual as well.
And Barack Obama is stupid in a way historians will be poring over for millennia.
Trump has punctured the profound stupidity of political correctness, and we owe him for that. He has confounded our profoundly stupid media for four months, and we owe him for that as well.

Of all the candidates, Trump is the most likely one to actually accomplish what he is promising. Trump has the fire in the belly. He shares our anger.
His tax plan is the best anyone has put out. It is specific and sound. His Healthcare solution is 1000 times better than Obamacare. That’s not saying much, but at least it is a workable solution.
Yah know candidates put forth plans but they go to congress and undergo change. Anyone else’s candidate put out a detailed plan to be critiqued?
Not to mention I don’t trust any entity that criticizes Trump anymore. What a pile on.

A very reasonable outlook, though I am not sure I agree with all of it. He certainly has the fire in the belly, and he shares our anger - which is more important than any other single factor in his success.
But I think it's too soon to claim his Obama Care solution the answer. The man still has a big gov centralized mindset on how "I am going to take care of everybody." He hired people to write his healthcare plan - but the man himself still comes up with leftist rhetoric at times. That is a red flag. And his tax plan, making sure that half of the population pays nothing? That's another huge red flag.

I used to subscribe to AS but had to quit when Kristol and Barnes took it down a path that undeniably aspired to establishment think. Then when the two were introduced as the editors and owners of it began their punditry, it all went off the rails.
It is that trust thing all over again. Violate it and I’m gone. I was one of the biggest flag wavers for the Party but like the publication, I just can’t go there anymore.
Well, if you believe that will be the case based on what Trump says, you'll also have to believe that he's for universal health care and that he isn't going to do much about immigration.
How's that going to affect your bottom line when those who pay no taxes want more social services (along with growing numbers of those who decide to stop trying to make more money and join the non-taxpaying ranks) and you become the "rich" who must dig into your pocket to sustain socialism?
Kristol and Barnes are two different creatures though. Kristol is sometimes establishment, but at other times he’s leading the pro Palin charge - way way way ahead of the curve and ahead of McCain’s choice. Barnes on the other hand is pretty much 100% all estab all the time.
Amazing then that Jeffrey Lord hasn’t been fired (what with his rabid support of Trump).
Walker is not coming back, so why the continuing hatred of Trump?
Show me a candidate with a tax plan as detailed as Trump’s. It is anything but ‘confused’.

Why not? We wouldn’t get a flat tax right off the bat, we have to get to it incrementally. Trump’s plan is a perfect start. Once it is proven congress can cut spending and lower taxes spurs economic growth thereby increasing tax revenues, further tax cuts can be made.
