I went to see John Paul 2 back in the 70s when he came to Philly. Parked in South Philly, about four or five blocks below South Street and walked up there, then stood in a crowd for hours waiting, as the crowd pushed and pushed ever forward until we were packed like sardines. It's a young people's game. I could still walk it today, but couldn't manage without a bathroom that long now.
See me? I'm about thirty rows back in the shadow area between the two big trees.
Incredible; I was offered tickets when JPII was in Newark NJ but declined because the security was ridiculous (you were to be in place 3 hours before he arrived). I’m just not into crowds (and today the bathroom thing would be an issue as well); I believe it rained for that event as well.
