Thanks to Singas policy, Nassau County prosecutors will be finding themselves especiallyexposed, should they be forced to confront an aggrieved offender bent on doing them or their innocent family members harm. The policy will also ensure that armed offenders have the upper hand in any such confrontation.
Thats a lot to ask of anybody for $52,000 a year, the salary of an entry level prosecutor in Ringass office in 2014. For anybody who has tried to earn a living in the New York City Metropolitan Area, thats not a lot of money. Clearly, the policy is aimed at impressionable young attorneys eager to begin their professional careers and to make a name for themselves. Vulnerable indeed.
According to Prof. Volokh, Ringass Office justified the policy as follows: Our practice of asking prosecutors to not possess handguns is to ensure the safety and comfort of staff, victims, and witnesses, and is consistent with other district attorneys offices in the New York City metropolitan area.
This is a bizarre and insufficient explanation for several reasons. First, theyre not simply asking their employees to follow a suggested practice. A document linked to in Prof. Volokhs story clearly indicates the handgun ban is a mandatory condition of employment. Titled Assistant District Attorney Application Information & Instruction Form, it requires the applicant to acknowledge: I understand that assistant district attorneys are not permitted to apply for a handgun permit nor own or possess a handgun while employed by the Nassau County District Attorney.

Ripe for a court challenge.
I would box my desk and leave.
If anyone understands the folly of placing their life in the hands of ‘the system’, it’s a prosecutor. Any prosecutor who has tried to convince a snitch to testify and tried to assure them of their safety afterwards knows what a crock of crap that is.
They should all show up for work wearing black powder pistols.
Seems incredibly stupid. (Is she a Democrat, or is that a dumb question?)
Court is exactly where I would go. Screw them.
Perhaps she recognizes that anyone that wants to work for her must be unbalanced.
How many other Constitutional Rights were they told to abjure? And for their clients?
What BS from the Nassau County DA.
This is why I would never drive for Uber nor would I be a customer of Uber.
Earlier this year, Uber announced to the world, including to all criminals, that neither their drivers nor the passengers would be allowed to carry a firearm.
It’s the same mentality as the Nasaau County District Arrorney’s office. Insanity.
This crazy DA needs to be removed from public office ASAP. The DA is there to help protect our rights, certainly not to deprive us of same. E should be given a copy of the Constitution on his way out. Maybe he’ll learn something on the bus home?
to ensure the safety and comfort of staff, ...
Can’t be having any Workplace Violence ...
And look at that ‘comfort’! Does carrying a piece jab you in the ribs?
I had a boss who had a no guns policy for his employees. Concealed means concealed. He never knew.
She.
