Donald Trump is calling the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) a "disaster" and vowing to renegotiate or break the deal if elected president.

"It's a disaster," Trump told CBS's Scott Pelley in an interview airing Sunday on "60 Minutes." "We will either renegotiate it or we will break it because you know every agreement has an end. "Every agreement has to be fair. Every agreement has a defraud claim. We're being defrauded by all these countries," Trump continued.

Pressed on whether he supports free trade, Trump responded, "We need fair trade, not free trade. We need fair trade it's got to be fair."

Empty manufacturing facilities litter the landscape all across this country because of NAFTA, and the like.

EXCELLENT idea!!

Now let's await the arrival of the hate-Trump crowd who will point out the 'folly' of doing away with NAFTA.

I’d like to hear Trump talk a bit about the CARNAGE created by our labor unions and government regulations.

Anyone that was around in the Northeast and Midwest 25 years ago knows that those places were VIRTUALLY DEAD before NAFTA was even under consideration in Congress.

Outstanding!

I’m amazed by the people that still defend it.

Trump has made numerous comments about government regulations strangling businesses. Guess you missed those?

I have a feeling some engineers in Mexico have been given orders to come up with a massive new border wall project.

That does not change the fact that a lot of stuff that was made in the USA has moved to Mexico since NAFTA too. I have heard him talk about cutting government regulation also.

Ok, cool, I just hadn’t heard them or seen them published. If you kill the trade agreements without loosening up on manufacturing in this country, then people will be SCREWED, and big time.

You have to do both.

I’ll admit I’ve probably missed some stuff on Trump - but has he EVER gone after our labor unions - in my book they have MORE CULPABILITY regarding our manufacturing mess than even government regulations.

Won’t sit well with the Chamber Of Commerce and doctrinaire free traders...

I always hated NAFTA and this is why I voted for Ross Perot. Too bad it got Bill Clinton into office but Ross Perot was right in 1992.
1992-Pat Buchanan also ran against GW Bush and against NAFTA.

And guess who was an adviser to both campaigns? FRANK LUNTZ!!!

Perot was the last Presidential candidate to tell the truth about “Free Trade”.

I agree the unions helped but I don’t know that they did more than government. The EPA and NHTSA in the 1970s had a lot to do with degrading our auto industry. The government has badly hurt many industries and continues to do so today. Mining, energy, manufacturing, lumber and even the little bakery that refuses to bake wedding cakes for homos come to mind. Unions can be dealt with at the state level, as many states have done, but the federal government continues to destroy industries and jobs unimpeded today.

The Donald does know business and business deals. I’d believe him if only it wasn’t our traitorous Dept. of State that would be involved.

Question, can just a EO break the agreement, or does it take a act of our gutless GOP congress?

If Trump plans to be a EO Dictator like the Marxist In Chief I don’t want him. Stroke of the Pen, Law of the Land as we learned under slick willie.

Many of us are for free trade. But free trade demands open markets among all principals to work. The superior nation will always “win,” but everyone will be lifted. We do not have fair, open markets today. China, Japan, others have such barriers that by the time free trade won, the nation would be destroyed.
