I think you do Ms Day a disservice in your criticism. Her abortion and out of wedlock birth occurred before her conversion and baptism. After that she advocated a more traditional sexual morality.

On the other hand she was an avid pacifist regarding WW II and Vietnam, but hypocritically supported Castro’s violent over throw of Cuba. I believe she was sincere in her faith but didn’t do so well escaping the Marxist ideology of her youth when she thought about how to best help the poor. Unfortunately the ideas advocated through her Catholic Worker movement were very influential with the boomer era Catholics and I suspect that was why the Pope held her up as an example for an American audience.

Thank you, Fly but it doesn’t wash with me...
She never discussed her bad choice of abortion and continued to live without the Sacrament of Marriage until the end of her life..convenient, no?
She is cited as an example of an advocate of Social Justice by the Pope...yet supported the communist oppression of Castro, Che and Minh.
Can’t have it both ways...can’t go down the cafeteria line and pick and choose what is Catholic and what isn’t.
Horrible choice by the Pontiff and awful to set up as an example of religious advocacy for the young...awful.
