Furious Boehner allies lash out

Allies of Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) are infuriated with the right wing of the House GOP conference, which they blame for his resignation.

GOP lawmakers who’ve stood by Boehner’s side throughout his rocky five-year tenure as Speaker bitterly blamed the right flank for forcing a contested leadership race less than a year after the party won control of Congress in the 2014 midterm elections.

A fired-up House Ethics Committee Chairman Charlie Dent (R-Pa.), speaking not long after Boehner dropped the bombshell at a Friday conference meeting that he’ll leave Congress at the end of next month, ripped into hard-line conservatives.

He accused them of opposing Boehner at every turn, and noted they have “never had a horse of their own.”

“Any jackass can kick down a barn door. It takes a carpenter to hang one. We need a few more carpenters around here. Everybody knows it,” Dent said off the House floor.

Leadership allies are frustrated by what they see as a repeated exercise in futility.

They argue that the lawmakers who repeatedly tangled with Boehner aren’t team players, and they said a new leadership team shouldn’t cater to them.

Boehner repeatedly saw conservatives vote against the GOP rules governing debate on legislation. Those votes are supposed to be tests of party loyalty.

They also argue Boehner repeatedly bent to conservative critics on spending issues, only to see them stab him in the back.

“Frankly, I thought our leadership in too many cases has been too accommodating, too quick to appease those who will not govern,” Dent said. “They give far too much procedural consideration to those who will not vote for the bills at the end of the process. That’s going to end. We’ve had enough of that.”

Yeb, Kid Marco & Carly were sad and solemn when speaking of Boehner's departure.

Trump & Cruz excited and happy for the opportunity for a leader that will oppose Obama.

Boo fricking hoo. These very allies are the reason that Johnny can spend more time drinking and golfing.

For the record IF Johnny was such a good man wouldn’t he just resign and be done with it? Why wait until the end of October?

Of course I know the answer he wants to get another crapulous bill passed

Pennsylvania State Senator Pat Brown should run against Dent in the next primary. I know it won’t happen, but Dent has become an utter slime ball from his days when he was a state senator. At this point I would vote for drunken rat Lisa Boscola over Dent.

This is hilarious. They’re lashing out at conservatives and the tea party, claiming we’re pushing an irrational approach in dealing with Obama. Yeah. That’s what they’re saying now. However, when they’re running for re election, they’re the ones claiming to be right of Ted Cruz, touting how they will reverse the left’s policies and stop the liberal agenda. This is the real fraud here that the media never discusses and the real reason most republicans feel completely betrayed. The GOPe run on such policies, but then get elected and tell us this shit - we can’t oppose Obama and must give him all he wants! There is the big lie. well, we the republican electorate have had enough. The grocery clerks have come to collect the bill and it is long overdue. We want them to stand on the policies they ran on - complete opposition to the leftist ideology, policies, and funding of them. Let the dens shut down the government if they can’t compromise with the wishes of over 50 percent of this country.

...forcing a contested leadership race less than a year after the party won control of Congress in the 2014 midterm elections.

...

Conservatives keep electing GOP, but getting nothing in return.

Indeed they will.

We need to stand stronger and taller. We need to work harder and be smarter.

What NO ONE wants to say is that Bonehead quit because he didn’t have the votes to keep him in the speakership. His stepping down and leaving congress tells me ALL I need to know about the coward. He cared only about power

Seems to me that all Tup did was counsel some tempering in the glee.

That is always a good thing to do when one wins.

Yes we need to do more ( and I think Tup would agree). Yes we need to continue to clean house.

Think back to Thad Cochran and the Barbour/McConnell machine and what they did.

This group of power hungry grifters does not want to give up their power. We must be ever vigilant and strong

With all due respect, I am not trying to be an English pedant, but rather analyze their use of language to understand what they (GOPe) is really all about. Their inability to write clearly reflects their inability to think clearly which would get in the way of the deals to be made by selling out and selling often.

This group of power hungry grifters does not want to give up their power.

My only point of disagreement is that this is not about power. They never wanted power because, as has happened, they could be held accountable for how they used it to govern. This was about the size of the grift, taking the taxpayer for an easy mark.

How about “enraged by?” And , if you have a minute, can you go over “shall” and “will?” As in “ “goodness and mercy shall follow me... and I will dwell....”

Curious just who or what you are railing against by your post that appears to be a complaint about something, or am I wrong?

Your post does not address why any FReeper should be fearful of K Street, the idea to which I was responding.

What do you have against some FReepers for being happy regarding the imminent departure of Boehner?

They say they support Boohooner yet they come out and call him a liar, he said he woke up the other day, prayed, and decided to resign, so if you got a problem blame prayer.

Apparently God showed him the light he otherwise refused to see for so very long, yes sir prayer will do that if you just try it.
