What “electoral disaster”? The shutdown was in 1995. The Republicans (mostly) held Congress until 2007 - only losing it when Bush went on his quest for Amnesty.
The Republicans then shut down Congress in 2013 and were ‘punished’ by WINNING THE SENATE in 2014.

Good points. It’s the GOPe who always throw the monkey wrenches into the winning strategies of conservatives, and then stand back and point at the “losers”, when they are responsible for the loss.
