My wife works in a grocery store and can confirm that. She can also confirm that a lot of them are talking on cell phones and driving $30k cars. They're usually working under the table.

Governor LePage has done a great job in reforming Maine's welfare culture.

I just said it was, and the method and people accountable to you for it are the local welfare organization and its administrators. The people responsible for it are your elected officials.

The local recipients are not within your responsibility nor scope of investigation, and they are not accountable to you. Snooping into other citizens' individual privacy is not your business.

When my mandatory tax dollars, my money, go for abortion, the promotion of 'gay marriage', encouraging idleness and other things that I find repugnant and immoral, it is my business.

When my mandatory tax dollars, my money, go to support a Congress, Courts and an Executive that rams an immoral law, read ObamaCare, that forces nuns and others to go against their Faith, support and pay for abortifacants, it is my business.

Of course these things are our business. Otherwise we would still have the same rules and laws that we had 200 years ago.

Of course, how that money is spent is your business and mine. But intervention into the lives of law-abiding individual recipients, case by case, name by name, is not.

The Mayor of this article is getting set to renew his tenure by framing a whole class that qualifies for assistance, rather than dealing with the qualification rules, or cutting off individual cheaters whose behavior exasperates the taxpayer.

Stiffening the selection rules takes too long to impact the next election. His move is a quick news-gathering, face-saving, and blame-shifting device at somebody else's expense. He's one of those to whom lax welfare administration ought to be credited, not to its recipients, whatever their motives.

Water and other things in it flow downward. The mayor is part of the problem, not the source of a solution.
