I don’t really think that is so bad. The dress was beautiful. It was conservative. It was made by a catholic designer. It was quite tasteful. I don’t think we should bash something she did that was actually in very good taste. The girls were dressed very tastefully, too. It doesn’t hurt us to acknowledge that. As for the cost, in the world of high fashion, that is not all that expensive.

The only issue I take is that the color, turquoise, was more summery than late September (maybe the same dress in a bronze tone?) would have been better. But...high neckline, low hemline (it was windy, btw, reason why hem looks uneven and hair was windblown). The girls and Mrs. Robinson also dressed appropriately.
The Obamas are NOT Catholic, but her staff made certain that a Catholic designer made the dress, and the price (to me) seems fair.
