Plenty of things will be different at Friday’s White House state dinner for China, ranging from the setting to the decor to the post-dinner entertainment. But in trying to figure out what to change, the White House decided to keep one thing the same: Maine lobster is back on the menu.

The lobster will be poached in butter and served with traditional rice noodle rolls embedded with spinach, shiitake mushrooms and leeks when President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan to dinner in the East Room with a few hundred guests.

When then-President Hu Jintao was the guest in 2011, the lobster was also poached and served with glazed carrots and black trumpet mushrooms.

“Maine lobster is in season,” White House executive chef Cristeta Comerford said Thursday, as she and other White House staff showed off the table setting, menu items, decor and entertainment for the news media. …

The leftovers won’t be going to Michelle’s school lunch program.

Muslims can eat crustaceans?

Yes. 'halal' and 'kosher' differ in this regard.

None of the putrid glop served to America’s students will be on the menu? Shouldn’t we be hearing whines from the Mooch with the 3-zip code ass?

A lot of people are allergic to shellfish & also get sick headaches from eating shellfish (due to theobromine sensitivity). - The last two boiled shrimp I ate gave me a ramping sick headache (that was several years ago).

Chocolate also has theobromine in it. I quit chocolate for several years; now can have a couple of Frosty’s a week, but not 3 or 4 Frostys. :o(

I developed this sensitivity after I was already grown.

As I ~understand it, Kosher won’t eat actual bottomfeeders, including catfish or anything that should be purged before processing... so islamos can eat any crustacean, mussel, oyster, etc?

Yeah lobster isnt much of an American meal anymore. Nobody can afford it.

Really? It's not that much more than hamburger lately. I have it at least an average of once a month, then again, about half of that are lobster I get myself.

I just don’t get serving “Chinese” to the Chinese.

I agree. It's like when your company does their big annual "holiday gathering" and serves the epitome of the traditional Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and all the sides. Never understood that either.

Few years ago when I was in Maine lobster was cheaper than hamburger.........probably still is at the wholesale level.

It’s the middle level distributors and restaurants that make a killing on it.......

I thought Michele already ate all the available lobster in Maine and Massachusetts. Is her chef now buying overseas ?

And do these pigs ever eat anything other than lobster and filet mignon ?

Would be funny if Texans weren’t constrained by cattle-rustling laws, we could post the same thing ‘oh, my hamburger costs flatlined Thurs. night at 3am when I bagged that 3-month old heifer’.
