Pope Francis' Speech To Congress Didn't Mention Abortion, Gay Marriage By Name

In a 3,404-word address, he used only 75 words on the two topics.

Pope Francis touched on many topics in his speech to Congress, but conservatives may have expected him to say more about abortion and same-sex marriage.

During his historic speech at a joint meeting of Congress on Thursday, Pope Francis hit upon a variety of issues that have defined the Catholic church: protecting the environment, helping the poor, addressing the plight of immigrants, abolishing the death penalty and taking a stand against the proliferation of the weapons trade, to name a few.

Yet, while the pope had strong words on many of these causes, he glossed over two other topics that American bishops have strongly lobbied against in recent years: abortion and same-sex marriage. In fact, he did not even mention them by name.

I am not a Catholic—and I do believe the Scripture says it best when it says “thou shalt not suffer a murderer to live. I understand that Catholic teaching is such that it appears fallen man /and governments made of men are so corrupted that government cannot act as agent of God. —hence policy contrary to Scripture... my question is why do so many act as if the Pope s anything but a man as guilt of error as any other?And will anyone post that image or Ruth Bader Ginsburg representing the supreme Court. Passed out while the Pope spoke.—and how about weeping John B. he looked like a man having a panic attack watching for garbagemen to cart him off.

I’m a protestant, but I’ve got to admit that I believe there are just some of us who have done a better job at their Christianity than have others. We like to mention the Billy Grahams, the Billy Sundays, the John Wesleys, the John Calvins, etc., and we do so because they’ve been stellar representatives of Christianity, each in his own way.

I’m transferring that understanding to the Catholic idea of a ‘saint’. They pretty much mean that stellar life Christian. (I know they have attached other things to it, but I’m not trying to explain the universe here, just trying to make a point. No parallel is perfect.)

That gets us to the Pope. Whether he ever gets canonized or not, a Pope is in a sense assumed to be their leading ‘stellar Christian’. Therefore, he gets boatloads of respect from them.

Do I expect you to buy my explanation? No, but I do hope you see it as an effort to put this all in an easy-to-understand format.

He’s not a Communist. He’s not even a Socialist.

He’s a businessman. He’s using Socialistic messaging to sell his product, hoping it will expand existing and create new revenue streams by bringing more people into his Church.

Not in that speech. But he went on later to mention Jesus. He actually called Jesus "homeless"...in order to make his political agenda point of being pro-illegal immigration and pro-refugee immigration.

So, in essence, the pope lied. And he lied about Jesus. Jesus was not homeless, any more than Joseph and Mary were homeless. They had a home in Nazareth. They were forced to travel to Jerusalem in order to register for a newly decreed TAX by the current roman dictator, Augustus....which I find highly ironic .... considering THIS pope's stance on "wealth redistribution".

So what's next from this pope? I shudder to think...but I won't be surprised...

by anything spewing from this pope's mouth...going forward (pardon pun).

The Rev. Miguel D’Escoto Brockman, 81, was suspended from his duties by St. John Paul II and recently wrote to Francis asking for that order to be revoked so he could celebrate Mass again before he died.

D’Escoto and three other dissident priests were suspended in 1985 for defying a church ban on clergy holding government jobs. The Sandinistas, who supported the “popular church” of liberation theology, overthrew the pro-American regime of Anastasio Somoza in 1979. D’Escoto served as Nicaragua’s foreign minister from 1979 to 1990.

I saw the churches in Nicaragua that he spoke of, and the churches were churches that talked about the need for violent revolution and I remember clearly one of the major churches in Managua where the Jesus Christ on the altar was not Jesus Christ, he was a Sandinista soldier, and the priests talked about the corruption of the West, talked about the need for revolution everywhere, and talked about 'the evil empire' which was the United States of America."

REV. BOB SCHENCK, NATIONAL CLERGY COUNCIL: "it's based in Marxism. At the core of his [Wright's] theology is really an anti-Christian understanding of God, and as part of a long history of individuals who actually advocate using violence in overthrowing those they perceive to be oppressing them, even acts of murder have been defended by followers of liberation theology. That's very, very dangerous."

SCHENCK: "I was actually the only person escorted to Dr. Wright. He asked to see me, and I simply welcomed him to Washington, and then I said Dr. Wright, I want to bring you a warning: your embrace of Marxist liberation theology. It is contrary to the Gospel, and you need, sir, to abandon it. And at that he dropped the handshake and made it clear that he was not in the mood to dialogue on that point."

Like the pro-communist Liberation Theology that swept Central America in the 1980s and was repeatedly condemned by Pope John Paul II, Black Liberation Theology combines warmed-over 1960s vintage Marxism with carefully distorted biblical passages. However, in contrast to traditional Marxism, it emphasizes race rather than class. The Christian notion of "salvation" in the afterlife is superseded by "liberation" on earth, courtesy of the establishment of a socialist utopia.

Perhaps not directly, but here are some things that he did say about protecting life and family …

“You are asked to protect, by means of the law, the image and likeness fashioned by God on every human face.”

“All political activity must serve and promote the good of the human person and be based on respect for his or her dignity. ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness’”

“I am convinced that this way is the best, since every life is sacred, every human person is endowed with an inalienable dignity,…”

“It is my wish that throughout my visit the family should be a recurrent theme. How essential the family has been to the building of this country! And how worthy it remains of our support and encouragement! Yet I cannot hide my concern for the family, which is threatened, perhaps as never before, from within and without. “

“Yet this same culture presents others with so many options that they too are dissuaded from starting a family.”

The Pope’s speech was very disappointing.

No specific mention of abortion...just vague references to protecting life at all stages.

Then a long segment about doing away with the death penalty for convicted murderers.

Where the hell is his moral compass?
