This may be the last sensible City Council in the South. And courageous, too.
You cant erase history just because you dont like it, said Vice Mayor Angelia Williams Graves, who is black. It is what it is. To remove it would be a mistake.
Some common sense, and interesting that opinion came from a darker skinned person and I do agree with her statement 100%. History is what is it and it all needs to be taught in a fair way and we cannot be so afraid to wash it all away just because it offends us, we all need to learn from it to understand the past, for being PC is not the way and then move on from it into the future.
- just my opinion.
If I was “King for a Day” I would keep every Confederate Memorial and Flag Flying.
They would become a part of the school syllabus in every district.
The surest way to prevent slavery from ever rearing its ugly head again is to accurately teach its evils to our children. Hiding it from view and not mentioning it in public almost guarantees its resurgence.
Proof of the above statement? In 1946 it became illegal to display, sell, or trade Nazi symbols and memorabilia. Yet 55 years later political parties and other groups are actively using Nazi emblems to advance their causes. And, according the web these parties are among the fastest growing political parties in modern Germany.
Would do a better job in the White House than the idiot we have there now.
Great!
I believe I will send the Norfolk city council a strongly worded letter....thanking them for making use of the common sense the Good Lord gave them.
Common sense has become all too uncommon.
...for now.
Strange. . . when I click on the article link, it takes me to Google Mail.
Does anyone else have this happen?
My gosh, a ray of sanity!
Good for the council.
