Trump grows Iowa lead as 69 per cent of the state's Republicans (war on Christianity)<tr>

Donald Trump has emerged none the worse for wear in Iowa after last week's Republican primary debate, leading in the all-important first caucus state according to a statewide poll released Tuesday.

Trump's recent emphasis on religion – he carried a Bible on stage at Saturday's 'Faith and Freedom Forum' in Des Moines and sat down for a multi-part interview last week with the Christian Broadcasting Network‎ – has borne fruit In Iowa's deeply religious farm country.

Fifty-four per cent of Republicans surveyed by Public Policy Polling said they were evangelical Christians. Sixty-nine percent said they agree with Trump's complaint that President Barack Obama is waging a 'war on Christianity.'

Another 30 per cent told pollsters they believe the religion of Islam should be 'illegal in the United States.' That position bolsters Dr. Ben Carson, the poll's second-place finisher, who said on Sunday that he wouldn't support the election of a Muslim as America's president because Islam is 'inconsistent' with the U.S. Constitution.

And his grand plan of winning the R nomination with Democrat crossovers is imploding fast as Hillary fails and a real primary contest on the D side develops.

Exactly...With Hillary faltering the Dems will have to stay home to cast votes in their own primaries...No so many Democrats will be able to vote for Bush in the Republican primaries...

Still a good look for him. I bet he could get a couple points bump by being the only bearded candidate. It’s also less politically correct and more threatening to the feminists.

Trump will get the MOST crossover votes from democrats except Kasich perhaps. Based on survey of my democrat relatives, they will not crossover for anyone except Trump. The illegals issue is the main reason.

Anyone else who believes Trump is an “evangelical” is delusional.

Why not??? Everyone else is a conservative...

Rubio strikes me as too boyish looking and sounding to be President...
PS-— I think Huckabee would make a good president overall even though he doesn’t garner up many voters. Huck is way better than Carly and the rest of the bottom feeders—

Jeb has essentially zero rank and file support.

I have to wonder if there is even a single supporter of Jeb on FreeRepublic. I think not.

Evangelicals need jobs more than a preacher in the white house. For spiritual guidance, they prefer their church.

"That won’t change no matter what Jeb does to try to prop up his anemic poll numbers."

I'm getting the impression that the establishment is about ready to write Jeb off and turn its attention to Rubio and Fiorina.

59% Evangelical

69% say there’s a war on Christianity.

So it’s not just the evangelicals who are seeing the war on Christianity ...

On Cavuto weeks ago Dr Carson admitted to knowing Trump for years. He said the personal person is nothing like the public personna. That Trump is one of the most considerate, generous and kindest person you could meet

Similar words were used by Alice Cooper shortly after. He is part of the Trump foursome and companies his public personna as a rock star with the private 40 year married , 30 year sober , born again Christian who ministers to youth with problems.
If you listened to Trump talking with the high school homecoming group last Saturday you get a better idea of the caring , supportive person he is. His advice on Chowning to do something you love and staying away from substances is the same advice he gives his own children.

Yep you’ve made a good point as to why Huck wont get the nod— appearances— Its a shallow culture we live in but what it is. Many of the founders were far from handsome or slick.

Huck is too GOPe for me. He'd be a nice fellow to chat up at a neighborhood barbecue and I enjoyed his television show most of the time.

But his only big disagreement with the PC crowd is on the social issues.

Tell me about it...we are indeed a shallow culture. If you are fat, short or ugly, it does not matter how good your agenda is. Examples: Christie & Huck (fat), Paul (short), Jindal (ugly). Sadly none of them will ever get elected president. All would be head and shoulders above Hillary, Sanders or Biden.

I have said this for a month. NO ONE leads in 150+ polls and it’s a “fluke” especially in states as different as NH, CA, and SC. Moreover, you can look at the individual races and even if you could find a couple of states where someone is even close to Trump, that person has no shot in almost any other state (Kasich for ex led in one OH poll). Trump will wrap this by Super Tuesday.

We can think G. W. for that.

Oh he was going to be our knight in shining armor. Gosh what a raucous his supporters made here.

Many of them are gone now.

I particularly liked the ones who stated he was better than Reagan.

I used to laugh at this one, but it is so true.

NO MORE BUSHES / STAY OUT OF THE BUSHES
