Wisconsin's Walker exits '16 race with harsh words for Trump

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Warning the GOP's presidential race has become too nasty, Scott Walker suspended his 2016 campaign on Monday and called on some of his Republican rivals to do the same, citing an urgent need to "clear the field" to help defeat GOP front-runner Donald Trump.

"Today, I believe that I am being called to lead by helping to clear the field in this race so that a positive conservative message can rise to the top of the field. With that in mind, I will suspend my campaign immediately," Walker said in a Madison press conference.

Jindal’s attack on Trump was a shocker for me, not so much Carson, Fiorina and now Walker. Did Perry attack him too? So many Zero %s I can’t keep track :)

Walker jumped the shark and obeyed his financial backers instead of the We the People. Too bad. He did good work in Wisconsin.

If I have time and feel like it, I'll look up a transcript of the entire speech, but I'm with you, Walker didn't say anything negative about Trump in particular. That's a media fabrication or imagination.

At the same time, walker's point is a bit muddled, "instead of talking about how bad things are, talk about how to make them better" is an odd remark. The two go hand in hand, and the people aren't feeling that things are going all that well. His remark about the debate swinging into the personal should be pointed at the press, which uses "let's you and him fight" questions.

To be honest I’m not a huge Trump fan. Having said that, I would certainly vote for him and I LOVE what he is doing to the GOPe and politics in general.

Also, the GOPe has it’s ways of running us down at some point and I STILL think they will get what they want in Jebby (who I won’t vote for). But I am less sure than I once was.

You may indeed be correct.

I had to check that this is accurate, and yes it is.
Very foolish.
I like to suppose his donors demanded it of him. Else the story of his campaign is that he hung around with the wrong people.
What a fiasco it has been.

I don't think Walker is a conservative. I think he is a demagogue who latched onto the public union issue and used to rouse public anger.

His method of departure shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who has researched his political career. He has been a political low life even as far back as college and has historically surrounded himself with unprincipled hacks willing to do his dirty work so he doesn't get any "stuff" on himself.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

...citing an urgent need to "clear the field" to help defeat GOP front-runner Donald Trump.

I just don't read "clear the field" meaning get after Trump. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seemed to me when I heard his speech, he wanted to get out and let the rest hammer it out. Sorry to see him leave. Grahamnesty should have been the next one out.

I don’t agree with that. Best Governor in the country, crushed the union scum, a unrivaled accomplishment. Would of been an excellent President.

Cruz as well, I can’t see why anyone (conservative and with their brain in the “on” position) would prefer Trump to Cruz.

Notice Walker used Trump’s campaign slogan - “Make America Great Again.” Trump has a copyright on that phrase.

Walker had no chance of being the nominee, he was played for a fool and used by the GOPe and its Trumps fault. Well, okay then, I only have two more things to say....door.....ass.

I don’t think that I have either, but I am sure I have argued with at least a couple of people around here that Walker isn’t pro- amnesty and things like that.

Sure he is. He just hadn’t figured out how to successfully lie about it, which resulted in him appearing to flip flop a bunch of times, which probably hurt him very badly, because it seems that a great many people are not in the mood for GOPEs any longer.
