If you actually read what Carson said, he didn’t say a Muslim should be barred from running. Carson just said he would not support a Muslim’s candidacy.
That's the way I read it. But we live in such bizarre times that no one ever takes a person's words at face value; everything has to be parsed and interpreted. If, for example, I say I like chocolate ice cream, everyone will take that to mean that I hate vanilla. Crazy trends for crazy times.
They can run, but people don’t have to vote for them. Sadly, the campaign slogan would be “vote for me or you are an islamaphobic”.
Exactly. You’re not shredding the Constitution if you just oppose a person’s holding that office. There’s no law about it and there shouldn’t be. We went through all of this with Romney.
True, there’s no real conflict between what Carson and Cruz said, merely a difference of emphasis. I wish Cruz had led with “not a good idea” and then added “technically re the Constitution” - but I think it’s safe to say Cruz really thinks it’s a bad bad idea.
