Cuban authorities prevented leading dissidents from meeting Pope Francis in Havana on Sunday, in a sign of the Communist regime’s rigid intolerance of political opposition. Two well-known dissidents, Marta Beatriz Roque and Miriam Leiva, had been invited by the Vatican to attend a vespers service led by the Pope’s in Havana’s historic baroque cathedral.

Can I ask a stupid question?

Since communism is officially atheist, and communism is totalitarian, why would good communists such as the Castro brothers welcome and allow the Pope to perform Mass in their communist paradise????

Maybe, just maybe even communists have discovered that in the “foxhole” of life, even the so-called atheists KNOW that not even they can stop both death and judgement.

This tells you all you need to know about Francis. He is an authoritarian completely comfortable with totalitarians.

Did he mention his countryman and hero, Che, during his homily

Answer: Because this pope is way more thoroughly Communist that Fidel Castro ever dreamed of in his wildest Socialist fantasies.

Yet it will do nothing to deter his World Marxism Tour.

Probably to draw out the dissidents, and put them all in on place. Makes it easier for the castro brothers to round them up, and throw them in prison.

The Pope is essentially being used as bait.

Near as I can tell, it wasn't Mr. Bergoglio that had the persons who were invited by the Vatican to attend evening prayer service, detained, and prevented from attending the service.

It was the Cuban government who did the detaining.

You’ll be happy to know that the Pope requested a meeting with Fidel and spent an hour and a half bonding with him over “climate change” and “income inequality.” They apparently got along famously well and agreed on everything.

It was the Cuban government who detained them, but the Pope has done nothing to help them and has ignored their requests for a meeting (on the other hand, he went out of his way to meet with Fidel and chat about “climate change” with his favorite dictator).

And yet, those in the hierarchy who EVER disagree with Francis are demoted. Shepherd, or Wolf?

Is Fidel Castro, Bergoglio's "favorite dictator"?

Has he said that in his own words? (here's your chance to deliver a coup de grâce)

Where is the public shaming of the Commies? JPII would not have stood for this. That’s why he’s a saint of the Church and Francis is a saint of the LGBTQRS community and the mainstream secular media. Next I think will be forgiveness for selling parts of aborted babies.
All is forgiveness, unless you’re trying to earn a living.

I don't know. Not sure what form it should take, other than stressing consistent reminder that state-planned and managed economies puts "the state" firmly into role of deciding who winners and losers will be, while on the other hand, free market economy & society is the setting necessary for creation of wealth, and has helped lift people out of poverty.

Free market economies and societies do need to have a conscience towards workers, and to some degree the environment itself also.

Yet for a Latin Church pope to lecture Western cultures for those aspects, is to be leading from behind, at best, in light of the extensive protections already in place in what was once the Protestant dominated "West".

The Church survived the Borgia and Medici popes. Hopefully they survive this one.

I consider myself a loyal and somewhat devout Catholic but I will not hold back criticism of this Pope. He does not value individual liberty at all, has swallowed the liberation theology hook, line and reel.

Despite his outward humility he seems as petty as Obama.
