Yes, and the government does not know what to do with so many thugs and thugs' supporters (such as their families.) It is nearly impossible to imprison and keep imprisoned everyone who deserves it, as lawless way of life spread and crossed barriers, however weak, that separated criminals from honest workers. It does not help that runaway unemployment in the age of automatic factories and offshoring nearly guarantees that none of those people will be ever working. This is a serious social problem, but the government keeps feeding them painkillers (social security, obamaphones, obamacare, EBT cards, etc.) instead of treating the disease.

Are you blaming offshoring and automate factories for employment? They are simply the symptom of a government that penalizes industry and the industrious with punitive taxes, EPA. OSHA, unions, FDA. FTC, EEOC, do I need to go? To paraphrase a smart man, capital goes where it is wanted and stays were it is loved.

I’d attribute this more to the good medical care available, particularly on the west side. Hope that everyone involved had insurance. Or, at least, Obamacare.
The alternative is frightening to consider: should we de-automate our factories in order to provide jobs for people who probably can’t perform them in the first place?
They could start with a new police chief in Chicago. Somehow I just don’t feel that he is up to the job.

8 killed, 45 wounded in weekend shootings
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Eight people were killed — including a 14-year-old boy — and at least 45 others were wounded in weekend shootings across Chicago.
The latest homicide happened Sunday night in Roseland on the Far South Side.
Jobs are are seen by many as a social good and end unto itself. Thus the basis of a feudal system with its ordering of society so that everyone has a place. We are rapidly headed toward the modern day version of a feudal system. Our government will play the role of royalty and overseers. The rest of us will work and live at their direction. You will only work in an approved craft in an approved manner and only deviate with express permission.
Start a business? Only if approved. Contract for wages? Only if it meets government approved wage laws. Move? Only if allowed.
