The loss of her stepdaughter, Lori Ann Fiorina, to addiction in 2009. It may be unusual for a public figure to share such personal tragedies so openly, but death by drug overdose is not uncommon in the United States.
We need to tell young people the truth. Drug addiction is an epidemic, and it is taking too many of our young people, Fiorina said during the debate. My husband Frank and I buried a child to drug addiction.
Wednesdays debate was not the first time Fiorina brought up the death of her stepdaughter, whom she had known since Lori was six years old. Lori was a bouncy, happy and loving child, she wrote in her book "Rising to the Challenge," released in May. She was smart and hardworking.
Lori Ann Fiorina was just 35 years old when she died, and it remains unclear, at least publicly, what specific substances led to her death. But, Fiorina noted, The news wasnt completely unexpected. Lori had been battling addictions for years. She had done three stints in rehab, and even when she was a college student her parents feared she drank excessively.
But after Lori Fiorina graduated from college, she seemed to thrive. She found a job in sales, an apartment and a husband. Little did Fiorina and her husband know that their daughter had begun to abuse prescription drugs, even as she struggled with bulimia and alcoholism.
The former HP CEO turned that experience into a call for action during Wednesdays debate. I know there are millions of Americans out there who will say the same thing about having lost a child to addition, she said. We must invest more in the treatment of drugs.

Carly Fiorina lied about her child... for brief political gain.
How did she lie?
What else have you posted Hillary?
Carly said she was for the war on drugs because she lost a child.
Well it turns out it was her 35 year old step child living 3000 miles away.
The war on drugs is for illegal drugs. What killed Carly’s 35 year old step daughter was legal prescription drugs and alcohol.
Ms Fiorina was dishonest and misleading in her statment that they “buried a child”, when in fact her stepdaughter was 35 years old at the time.
Oh I see you are for the latest currently trending Establishment/Globalist candidate that’s against Trump.
You are not interested in candidates that exploit a death for political gain.
At what age did you cease to be a child of your parents?
I believe she was referring to Lori Ann as her child, which Lori Ann’s mom took great offense to. She raised the child, and I believe I read the child didn’t have much to do with Fiorina.
If I were the child’s mom, that would frost me as well.
She didn't technically. In her very carefully worded heart string appeal, she just allowed you (if you didn't know better) to think it was her daughter, and that the daughter died (if you didn't know better) from illegal drugs.
I knew nothing about the incident and, at first assumed it was her daughter and, having a daughter myself, felt terrible. Until I looked into it and realized what she was doing - using her dead step-daughter as a prop.
The REAL mom was pissed about it.
I have a very weird body. I was on up to 180mgs of oxycodone and never felt the slightest high.
Didn’t follow doctor’s orders (which was really stupid) and came off them all at once after about a month because they did nothing for the pain.
Used to love the booze in teens, 20s and early 30s.
Head injury prevents me from drinking anymore. Small price to pay to feel good.
But BOY I miss it sometimes!
BUT i did take klonopin for anxiety and of course worked great for a few weeks but then body got used to it and stopped working.
I dont understand. As I understand it, benzos attach to GABA receptors which in turn slow the nervous system down. How can a body get used to that?
Only thing i can think of is receptors get damaged and you need more to flood them so that the same amount of benzos get in. Anyone?
Agree 100%
Still waiting for you to tell me what the lie was.
When you're not her child at all the person claiming to be your "mom" is a manipulative b***h.
As she should be.
Step-moms are real moms.
When my friend died she was 41. Her mother still buried a child.
My eldest is 38. He will always be my child.
Carly Fiorina has been married for over 30 years. Her relationship with her stepdaughter began when the girl was 4. Get a life man.
How is that a lie?
