Europe's aging economies stand to gain from influx of people

BRUSSELS (AP) — The greatest influx of people into Europe in decades is not just a humanitarian emergency, but also a potential stroke of luck for many countries facing the economic threat of an aging population. A plunge in birth rates means there will be a dearth of European workers in coming years to support the growing number of retirees. So the arrival of thousands of young — and often well-educated — potential workers stands to boost the long-term economic prospects of the region.

................ However, refugees, if well integrated, ultimately have a positive impact on the economy, Dumont said. One Australian study found that within 15 years, humanitarian migrants contribute more to their new country of residence than they cost it in benefits.

What a bunch of BS. These golden calf worshipers are dangerous. Let’s destroy ourselves to save ourselves. A nation is about its people. If you change the people it is no longer the same nation.

Left wing radical secularism is the main cause of Eurpoe’s demise. Decades of abortion and promotion of a nihilist culture has destroyed the heart of Western Civilization. Islamists seek the path of least resistance.

What a nice way of putting it

I haven't read the article because the title was just so much BS

Every picture I have seen in the last month or so (and there are hundreds of them), show a relatively young, well dressed male crowd with muscles and pecs and energy befitting a warrior

These are not refugees, or immigrants, or asylum seekers .... this is an invasion

The most insidious aspect of this invasion (and indeed of all that is happening all over the planet) is;

They're not armed !

Islam is SO well trained, they accomplish with very loud and bare knuckled confusion, the invaded country steps aside while scratching their head going ... "What" ?

And until the civilized world greets these invaders with machine guns, we will lose this war.

This invasion of Europe by these “Sandies” will not turn out well for the natives.

Why so many military aged men? Have they run out of goats?

50 years ago I had a college course taught by a "Futurist" professor. He was very prescient in much of his predictions and spoke of the glorious future.

As a typical "Egghead Liberal" he predicted that far less workers would be required to provide this glorious future and that we all would be free to pursue the arts and do wonderful things with all this "free time". I engaged him in a class discussion in which I pointed out that human nature would drive far too many people to darker pursuits of drugs, crime and activities destroying civilization. I even mentioned the ancient wisdom in the phrase "Idle hands are the Devil's workshop".

I still feel that vast masses of uneducated people, even if provided generous benefits will destroy freedom eventually. Mankind needs the ability to be productive (even if they are not motivated to be so). Without the need to work for one's survival I see a much darker future than the nirvana predicted by my long deceased futurist professor!

Yeah, the citizenry died, but the economy was a success.

It’s called engorging the lumpenproletariat, and it’s been in their playbook for decades.

One sees in this article all the rationalizations being summoned to create a society in which the only solution will be total state control.

As usual, your posts are intelligent, well examined, and even poetic at times.

Exactly - and that is the goal.

“For years I have been waging a frequently lonely battle here against the idea of population growth as a booster of wealth”

I fully agree with this statement. One need only look as far as Singapore and Switzerland rated the highest per capita countries globally in wealth and income both with no population growth to support this statement. Unrestrained population growth results in unrestrained growth in entitlement spending and hampers wealth and income growth. In the long run Europeans looking for foreigners to support their entitlements will only find them being reduced and redistributed to these same foreigners.

They admit it openly, they say that’s why they’re flying like a swarm of locusts (well they don’t say the locust part, I do) to Germany, the UK, etc, because the freebies are better.

Well said. “Bread and circuses” didn’t work out very well for the Roman Empire either.

We conservatives despise the conceits of the left. We should not be surprised that your college professor believes that he can change human nature with technology when the left otherwise believes that they can control the weather.

I quite agree with you human nature requires a purpose and very often that purpose is work. I used to raise border collies and a border collie with a job is a happy doggie. They say the border collies are the most intelligent breed so maybe there is a correlation.

It is our understanding of the nature of man that divides us from the statist and his conceits. They see humans as chickens in a Skinner box which can be manipulated to behave by positive reinforcement. The whole scenario is very appealing to them because they get to play God. To a statist politics is the occupation which yields the broader scope to play God. To the statist the whole world is a Skinner box.

He doesn't worry about idle hands doing the devil's work, he will reeducate his chickens to like the box.

"Europe's aging economies stand to gain from influx of people"

That may very well be true. However, the question at hand is whether the European culture can withstand the influx of military age Islamic men who are totally unwilling to assimilate into the European culture.

> A plunge in birth rates means there will be a dearth of European workers in coming years to support the growing number of retirees. That is the wrong issue taking us down the wrong path. The proper question is, will there be enough robots in coming years to support the growing number of retirees? And how will a welfare state manage to distribute the proceeds generated by robots and still maintain a civil and free society?

^ Good stuff. Made me chuckle. A libtard wouldn't get it...: )

The greatest influx of people into Europe in decades is not just a humanitarian emergency, but also a potential stroke of luck for many countries facing the economic threat of an aging population.

How much growth did France produce from its Muslim immigrants?

However, refugees, if well integrated, ultimately have a positive impact on the economy,

How well did France’s Muslim immigrants integrate?

As I recall a few years ago France had unemployed Muslim youth rioting, burning cars and destroying property.

Do the authors of this crap ever devote any time to exploring the history of their theories in practice before they propose implementing their idealistic plans?

As I see it France is the petri dish of Europe that shows what will happen if we introduce the bacillus of Islam to the agar-agar of a Liberal nation with a generous welfare state.

The result is obvious. A rapidly growing minority that is intent on subduing the majority to a despotic political/religious philosophy that denies freewill and imposes a do as we say or die rule of law.
