Jeb leaves a vacuum. Who fills it?
Yahoo Politics ^ | 9/17/15 | Matt Bai

If you were in Washington watching the Republican debate last night, you might have felt a small tilt in the floor, or heard the plates rattling gently in their cupboards.

That was the sound of the Republican establishment shifting its collective weight away from Jeb Bush — and inching a little bit closer to their best available alternative.

And no, it’s not Ben Carson or Carly Fiorina.

Not to overstate the crisis here, because one poll can change everything at this stage of a race, but the way I saw it, last night was another minor disaster for Bush. He seemed, yet again, oddly tentative and squirmy, the earnest student body president shoved aside by the boorish quarterback at the pep rally.

That performance probably didn’t do much to help Bush among the millions of Republicans who tuned in, especially in the early primary states. But make no mistake: His most important audience right now is the one that pushed him onto that stage in the first place.

Because if Bush has a natural base in the party, it’s the powerful assemblage of Washington Republicans — politicians, theorists, lobbyists and lawyers — who can be counted on to unify every four years around a known, governing candidate. That’s why he entered the race as the presumed favorite despite an eight-year absence from office. That’s why his Super-PAC rolled up more money than the cash-counters at Trump Taj Mahal.

Carly won the debate hands down. She was spontaneous, clever in her answers without being personal, and passionate. Impeccably knowlegeable, as well.

At least he confirmed by observation that Kasich was simply GOPe Bush, without the burden of the Bush name.

Honestly, I was disheartened by the fact that, despite the title, the article was 80% Bush. Can't believe they're still pushing that GOPe on us.

But Carley has a bad rep from her stints at HP and Lucent. That will come back to haunt her as things tighten up

Establishment types will push Kasich, but he has zero chance out of Ohio with his embracement of Obamacare, etc

Cuz she got all the time. It is easy to be elegant with words when you are given double the time and no one is trying to constantly interrupt.

The more the press tries to dismiss Trump the more people want him.

She was hardly spontaneous. Her delivery sounded rehearsed and her persona was that of a schoolteacher. She talks a good game but she’s no conservative.

Not a Krispy Kreme Kristie fan at all, but he had a real good night last night....and I think the estabs might gravitate towards him more than Kasich. CC is more likeable than Kasich when he has his persona turned on. I think Rubio did too.

I would say Rubio and Christie are the two who will get the DC crowd’s support, not Kasich. I never thought it would be Jeb ultimately. More convinced than ever.

LAKE: ping to you as only other Freeper I know who NEVER feared Jeb.

“clever in her answers “

That’s her problem, she has a history of clever answer and terrible follow through. She became CEO of HP by clever answers only to destroy the company and get fired in the most humiliating way when her board of directors threw her out. I don’t want some dumb broad with clever answers without the experience and know-how to run the country.

Yes, she was very good and pointed in her comments. But she lacks warmth and likability. A smile, a laugh, a little self deprecating humor would go a long way toward improving her likability quotient. For someone who was a high level corporate executive, she is surprisingly stiff and cold.

Elections are, in many respects, a popularity contest. People have to like you or they won’t vote for you.

Only a corrupt party would think of nominating the brother of the guy that was just president 7 years ago, and left with a horrible approval rating, who is also the son of the only previous Republican president before that, that was defeated in re-election... would actually be a good idea!!!!

It’s interesting how different people perceive the same event. I didn’t sense spontaneity from Carly. In fact, I sensed anything but. I thought she merely repeated well-rehearsed lines that she was bound and determined to get out. She may be talented, but I don’t sense genuineness. I perceive her as cold and highly programmed.

I don’t think she’s cold and stiff, and she smiles a lot. She has a beautiful smile. You probably haven’t watched her enough.

I knew guy who had worked with her back in the 80’s. Not closely, but close enough and frequent enough to observe her demeanor and personal style. He did not have much positive to say about her. And most significantly, he did not trust her.

Fio-RINO is the new GOPe designated loser to replace Jeb.

Hillary’s negative ads against Fio-RINO have already been done once before by Boxer. Hillary will recycle them and win if Fio-RINO is the nominee:
