Battleships are archaic. Heck aircraft carriers are close to being archaic what with nuclear torpedoes. They still serve a purpose for most police actions.
Cruz is well positioned for when Trump implodes. And I think you're already seeing signs of that over the past few weeks. He's being questioned on issues and facts and is coming across as ill-prepared. I think that by the end of the year Cruz will have eclipsed Carson for second place. He'll be a close second to Trump if not in first place himself.
We also need to ask ourselves if perhaps we should be following our candidate's example by NOT engaging in sniper fire against Trump
Questioning Trump's positions is not sniping. It's pointing out that there is no "there" there.
Refitting the Iowa right now would probably cost less than one of the new stealth destroyers. And, no, ISIS will be on the coast. But you can never have too much REAL (not electronic) firepower.
They aren’t all on the record for wanting to update and increase our military. Where the hell did you get that idea?
I haven’t heard one other candidate address the military period.
RINSE ....REPEAT!!!!!
A lesson we forgot in Korea, Vietnam, and even after 9/11.
You fight....You WIN. Make the losers pay.
Well stated and great list.
Battleships are still strategically necessary because of their logistical flexibility. Out fitted with the right weaponry they are a major force.
If you’re close enough to engage opposing forces with 16 inch guns, the battle has gone against you in this era.
Great for showing the Flag ...
Of course. It was insane to mothball such warships.
Sometimes showing the flag is all that is needed. Could save lots of lives with displays only.
I remember that - she was supposed to be the sixth Iowa, but there were so many design changes, they went ahead and started the Montana-class.
Big, beautiful, and a symbol of might.
The supercarriers are their successors for power projection today, but like my dad used to say, nothing spelled “POWER” like seeing the US engisn flying from the fantail of a battleship in foreign waters.
I tried to enlist about that time just to get on one and they told me the battleship billets were all spoken for.
How about the pin point fire from their huge guns and the cruise missiles that they were equipped with? Those guns were devastating and highly accurate!
I remember the Iraqis surrendering to the observation drone from one of the battleships in Desert Storm, I think.
Yeah. My brother was a contractor on the Missouri when they were recommissioning it back in the eighties. He went out on sea trials......very impressive as he tells it.
Anyone thinks that Trump is not going to be prepared for the debates or have a solid grasp of knowledge simply doesn’t know about Trump.
They see the rallies and the speeches which are heavy on rhetoric but lite on specifics.
But Trump is also very smart and a quick study.
I’ve heard more specifics from him at this point than just about any other candidate.
Check the link in my tagline as well.
Trump is not going to be caught flat-footed.
This is no such cartridge. Never has been and never will be. Examine the cartridges. To paraphrase James Carville, "It's the headstamp, stupid!"
Yes aware.
The .45 Colt [11.48x35R] cartridge is a handgun cartridge dating to 1872. It began as a black-powder revolver round developed for the Colt Single Action Army revolver, but is offered as a magnum-level, handgun hunting round in modern usage. This cartridge was adopted by the U.S. Army in 1873 and served as the official US military handgun cartridge for 19 years. It is sometimes referred to as .45 Long Colt or .45LC, to differentiate it from the shorter .45 Schofield, as both were used by the Army at the same period of time. Colt handguns chambered in .45 Colt could use .45 Schofield ammunition.
...Since Rick Perry checked out yesterday.
