Perry exits: A sad sign of our politics
Washington Post ^ | Sep 13 2015 | Jennifer Rubin

Former Texas governor Rick Perry exited the presidential race on Friday in the same manner in which he conducted his second presidential race, with maturity, largeness of spirit and devotion to conservative policies that improve the lives of all Americans.

>> He had his chance last time, he fell on his face. <<

Agreed. I think Perry's ENTRANCE into the race last time was "a sad sign of our politics". We had a bunch of second tier establishment conservatives and Perry just made it worse. He's may be a decent person in his personal life, but he's a mediocre politician in his public career and yet his fan club kept hyping him as southern fried Reagan.

Also disagree with the op-ed's comments that Perry conducted his Presidential races with "maturity, largeness of spirit and devotion to conservative policies". His behavior in Presidential races has been pretty tacky, from announcing the last time around when Michelle Bachmann had just won the Iowa straw poll to suck all the air out of the room and trample over her, to dropping out on September 11th of this year to make the day all about him.

It's interesting, however, that the mainstream media loved to ridicule Perry as an tone-deaf conservative & bumbling doofus when he was actually running, and is now portraying him as a wise, thoughtful statesmen that the eeeeeeeeeeeevil purist right-wingers snubbed, now that he's no longer a candidate.

Slick Rick finally gets his due.

I am from Texas, and a Conservative.

I am ashamed or Rick Perry. He’s a Crony Capitalist Repubican.

No, i didn’t misspell Republican.

Rick only suspended his campaign. With a Jennifer Rubin endorsement, I should take another look at Rick Perry. /s

Bleah, cry me a river, Ms. Rubin. There are a lot of talented GOP candidates who aren’t getting traction. Jindal, for example.

Yeah, it kinda stinks that Perry has been hounded by his 2012 gaffe, given that Obama has made, and continues to make far worse ones on a regular basis. But that’s life. Rick Perry’s only shot at competing in 2016 was to knock it out of the park in the first “minor league” debate. He didn’t do that, and the fork was in, end of story.

Perry was Ok, I would have had no problem voting for him if he were the nominee.

There was another article on FR where she was saying Cruz is too extreme and not presidential. She also said Cruz needs to learn from Perry! Guess not this time!

Watching the Five on Friday, we were just contemplating the events of 9/11. Eric was going to talk about it.

Ok Eric is a ham. And it’s just another 9/11. But it is a very important anniversary for me and others. We just want the day, ok. Just let us have the day. No one has to even say anything

But here comes Perry for twenty minutes hogging the news time

Wha? What do these people think?

Bobby no dal dissing trump on that lame Greg gutfeld show sounding like an annoying sixth grader on the bus

Jebalina sputtering in Spanish

They ARE stupid.

It’s 9/11. Just step back if you don’t care. Just step away for one day

Calling Trump “a cancer on conservatism” certainly showed maturity and largeness of spirit.

Jennifer, the "conservative paragon" according to some, seems to like those that boast and then run.

We remember Perry telling us he would insure that Texas sealed her borders despite the Feds' inaction and interference.

He and his supporters seem to be the only ones who have managed to forget that "preview" of his "Conservatism" if elected president.....

There is something deeply troubling about our political culture that he is out while Trump, the sleazy Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) and the admirable but unqualified Dr. Ben Carson hum along.

Another useless op-ed by a "conservative" who just happens to have the stamp of approval from the liberal elite.

What exactly is "sleazy" about Cruz, other than the fact that establishment Republicans like Rubin find his conservatism too "extreme"? Seems to me as though Rubin just needed some unpleasant ad hominem to describe someone whose politics she doesn't like, and that's the first thing that popped into her head. Rather sleazy of her, wouldn't you say?
