A virulent antipolice campaign has made police officers reluctant to do their jobs. The media amplify that message on a daily basis.
Im deliberately not getting involved in things I would have, a NY City officer says. I wont get out of my car for a reasonable-suspicion stop; only if theres a violent felony committed in my presence.
Violent crime has surged. Homicides up 76% in Milwaukee, 60% in St. Louis, and 56% in Baltimore compared with the same period in 2014.
Theres a total lack of respect out there for the police, says a New York sergeant. Perps feel more empowered to carry guns.
In Cincinnati, a riot broke out when police arrived at a drive-by shooting scene where a 4-year-old girl had been shot in the head Bystanders cursed at officers arresting suspects at the scene.
During demonstrations in Ferguson, Mo., 18-year-old Tyrone Harris opened fire at police officers and was shot and wounded by police in response. A crowd pelted the cops with frozen water bottles and rocks, destroyed three police cars and damaged businesses. Were ready for war, protesters chanted.
In Birmingham, Ala., an officer was beaten unconscious with his own gun. There was gloating on social media. The officer later said that he had refrained from using force for fear of a media backlash.
Officers are challenged in their most basic efforts to render aid. A New York cop said he was trying to extricate a woman pinned under an overturned car when a bystander stuck his cellphone camera into the officers face. You cant tell me what to do, the bystander replied when asked to move to the sidewalk. A few years ago, I would have taken police action. Now I know it wont end well for me or the police department.

Guaranteed side effect: In order to still make their quotas they will deliberately harass people they KNOW to be harmless non-violent meek citizens.

100% Obama

All democratic, gun-free strongholds.
They made their bed. Let them lie in it.
True, but the chickens are coming home to roost. All the Obama supporters and gimmedats are at ground zero.
The cops are probably figuring the same : )
Speaking for myself, I am not anti-police. Our local sheriff’s department here in Wyoming is awesome.
But the documented reality of police abuse across the country is readily accessible on YouTube, LiveLeak, PINAC, and etc.
Too many police are militarized, law breaking, murdering, lying, and clearly suffering from steroid rage. And their departments exacerbate the problem by going to great lengths to cover up for crimes that have been committed under color of authority.
The “Blue Wall of Silence” necessarily requires good cops to cover for the bad cops. It then makes the good cops into bad cops by involving them in criminal conspiracies and requiring them to violate applicable laws that require people to report crimes.
I suggest that anyone who thinks these problems with police recruiting are die to misinformation needs to go look at some of the sites I listed to see what police are up to.
Like the tennis player who got assaulted by an NYPD who tackled him and would’ve beat him up had not a retired cop stopped him. Yet even though this cop assaulted a decent, innocent man, there’s still too many people willing to explain it away as ‘justifed’.
Well, if that’s justified then so are my opinions based upon the facts as I see them.
No thanks to the “community organizer” in chief, a judicial branch that tramples state laws with impunity, and a less than useless self serving legislative branch that is bought and paid for by cronies.
I can just imagine what’s going to happen when the pendulum swings in the opposite direction.
“...100% Obama...”
All part of the agenda from day one.
“Never let a good crisis go to waste”.
Hmmm, didn't type that (cat), but it has a nice ring to it...
Although, Leavenworth works for me.

It’s a big problem. I think ultimately capping cops though is going to make it worse. They will have to start having partners in the same car or using multiple cars for all traffic stops. And they will kill more not less.
100% Obama
...
It’s Obama, but Libertarians have been on the Internet for years portraying the police in the worst light possible. They’ve done a lot of it here on FR and still do.
But bear in mind that one of the reasons why too many people will explain such things away as justified is due to the natural suspicion, skepticism and even cynicism thats now been created in the wake of too many situations that have been deliberaely misrepresented out of political opportunism and exploitation.
It’s now a self-reinforcing feedback loop. Or a death spiral.

Never get between a Libertarian and his pot.
Erosion in the structure of law just in time to bring in tens of thousands of America-hating jihadiis to add gasoline to the fire.
Everyone in Obama Inc needs to go to prison!
If a police department sees themselves as an “us” and their constituency as a “them” then the police are become an army of occupation.
And armies of occupation always inspire insurgencies.
What needs to happen is that policing needs to dial down the hostility, authoritarianism, and open contempt of the Constitution. Period.

“If Obama doesn’t follow the Constitution then we don’t have to.”
Last week I passed a state trooper as he had completed a traffic stop. I was slowing for a red light and was maybe doing 20 mph. He immediately pulled me over for not changing lanes. Which would have been difficult due to the car just ahead of me in the other lane.
I didn’t get a ticket and would have met him in court had I.
While the officer was calm and respectful, it seemed like a “failure to communicate” vibe.
I did some growing up in Sacramento. The sheriff’s department there gave me a deep and lasting appreciation for the Park County, Wyoming sheriff’s department.
You never really know how bad it is until you have it good.
