Charismatic pope gains fans in and out of Catholic Church with liberal views

(CNN) —Some pontiffs have been beatified or canonized, but Pope Francis is receiving a far more dubious honor.

He's being "Obamified."

The charismatic pope, who arrives in the United States on September 22, has gained fans in and out of the Catholic Church for denouncing unfettered capitalism, warning about climate change and urging mercy toward divorced couples and women who have had abortions.

He's also sparked a strange trend. The same political slurs and conspiracy theories that critics have used against President Barack Obama are now being deployed against Pope Francis. One critic even says the two leaders have morphed into one sinister figure he calls "Popama."

“Unfettered capitalism” doesn’t exist anywhere in the world

How about Planned Parenthood selling baby parts?

By the way, the Pope did not use the phrase 'unfettered captialism', so you should not put quotes around it suggesting that he did. He used the phrase "unfettered pursuit of money".

Doesn't sound like the type of capitalism we'd want.

You prefer the Planned Parenthood type?

Why do we have these discussions about the alleged evils of unfettered capitalism?

I have no idea, considering that the Pope didn't use that phrase.

The author of the article posted used the term “unfettered capitalism” - he was the one I was rebutting.

I’m Not a big fan of this Pope however he never said “unfettered Capitalism”.

Here is what he said “And behind all this pain, death and destruction there is the stench of what Basil of Caesarea, one of the church’s first theologians, called ‘the dung of the devil.’ An unfettered pursuit of money rules. That is the dung of the devil.” Its the left that interprets and mis-reports what he said.

Thanks for pointing this out. I never realized he never actually bemoaned "unfettered capitalism". In fact when I first read your post I went to go search for where I "knew" he used that exact term. I couldn't find it in any of his documents. But if you had asked me just a half hour ago "Did he use those exact words?" I would have said "yes". Odd how that works.

I'm still not 100% convinced he didn't use the phrase somewhere else. I was so sure. Maybe I'm wrong about more of what he's said, done or written.

Not really. I prefer the type where your grandkids can have car wash or bake sale fundraisers for their pep squads and athletic teams without having to pay fees and licenses to some government agency rather than the school going to some website that sends emails to the grandparents to shame them into “donating”. The latter is the Democrat way of doing things and I don’t like it. Government fettered regulation of capitalism sucks.

And the Planned Parenthood type of capitalism? Do you think it should be unfettered?
