Drone shot down at Inhofe fundraiser

OKLAHOMA CITY — An infamous fundraiser that involves shooting pigeons has taken down another flying object.

A drone that was being used to film Senator Inhofe’s pigeon fundraiser was grounded Saturday.

The annual fundraiser earns money for the senator as guests shoot at tame, banded pigeons as they’re thrown into the air.

Showing Animals Respect and Kindness is an animal rights group that secretly filmed the fundraiser for Senator Jim Inhofe last year.

This year, the group said they tried to use a drone to record the event Friday night in Greer County, but they reported the drone was shot down.

A spokesperson for S.H.A.R.K. also said the sheriff refused to investigate the fall of the drone, insisting that shooting a drone is not illegal.

They are tame in that they come running when it is time to eat.

It says they were doves, not pigeons. And you’re right in that they aren’t “tame”. But they are caged then let out and shot as they fly away.

To me it’s no different than putting corn out then hiding up in a tree and shooting the deer after they’ve become accustomed to the free meal. It’s not what I call hunting. I don’t ever remember reading anything about Daniel Boone or Davy Crockett setting up deer feeders. Maybe they did.

I think one day you’ll be able to buy a deer in a cage then let it out and shoot it as it tries to run away.

I’m looking for a lake that has scuba divers placing fish on hooks. I’m sure I could catch my limit real fast.

Those workers in slaughter houses don’t claim to be sportsmen.

First of all they are only tame because someone keeps them in an enclosure and feeds them.

Second, it is very sporting, it isn’t all that easy to hit them.

no they claim to be people who kill soulless ANIMALS- Cripes- if you are afraid that ‘it’s just a waste to kill and leave animals’ that isn’t true- nothing goes to waste- many creatures will find nourishment off the dead birds-

How many bugs have you killed? What’s the difference between a bug and a low animal? ‘intelligence’? If that is your answer, what is the deciding line for intelligence making something moral or immoral? (note, fleas can be trained to do complex things too- should be avoid spraying for fleas when our dogs get them?)

What exactly is ‘immoral’ about it? That it just leaves dead birds around? Animals kill just for the sake of killing and NOT eating as well- are they immoral? Your cute little house cats will rip each other apart outside the home and leave the other cat to die a slow painful death- no intention of eating the other cat either-

Is it immoral because some people find that practicing shooting skills on pests is ‘fun’? Animals practice hunting and killing with no intention of eating too- they do it for practice- Check out national geographic for examples-

I find it odd that people object to sport hunting but these same people have no qualms over calling the orkin man to kill bugs or mice or rats, or whatever-

Everybody knows that pigeons are notorious leftists.

Then again, some Pigeons are just a-hole drunks.

Dove hunters eat what they shoot.

The founders of this country hunted. Whining about hunting definitely uses progressive mentality.

A dove tastes like pigeon.

Pigeons are in the dove family, I think.

And you don’t even need a license or migratory bird stamp!

If this is like a normal pigeon shoot, these are wild pigeons trapped off of some building roof or barn and they are turned loose to be exterminated like the winged rats they are.

As kids we used to hit up all the local farmers to do some shooting. Most let us with the stern comment: Don’t shoot the buildings.

We would head to the silo, find some rocks and draw straws on who threw it. Once the rock hit the silo it was on. We’d give them about 25 foot
Clearance then fire away. We had pump shotguns back then. They usually would go from silo to barn. Rock to side of barn and game on again. We went thru boxes of shotgun shells by the dozens. (Usually paid for with cash earned by putting up hay in the farmer’s barn)

I think about that every time I am in the City and see all the pigeons. Shittin, stinking things!

A buddy of mine used to go to big box stores he shopped at frequently and ask the manager if he would mind if pigeons started disappearing at night.

Word will spread if you are discreet and trustworthy.

It was a good business!

Now if we could start cleaning out the Grackles and Starlings in the city.

I am not opposed to sport hunting but what Inhofe and his ilk do at this event is throw a pigeon up in the air and then shoot it. What they do is no better the what the dentist did with Cecil the lion.

Killing for food of sport is one thing but hunts like these I have no respect for.

Note my comment was that the sheriff said it's not illegal to shoot drones.

They hunted to put food on the table so maybe they did. They probably wouldn't have wasted corn like that but it is a sure thing they knew where the natural feeding locations were.

I love to watch "Mountain Men" on The History Channel. I haven't missed an episode.
