LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Police in Michigan have arrested the driver of a pickup truck who they believe intentionally struck a firefighter standing in a roadway collecting money for charity, killing him.

The 35-year-old Rodeman, who also served in the U.S. Marines in Iraq ... [was] participating in an annual fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the International Association of Fire Fighters, authorities said.

Rodeman was married two months ago, and he and his wife were expecting their first child, Fire Chief Randy Talifarro said.

"The 22-year-old suspect's name wasn't immediately released."

From the Lansing State Journal:

“Police said there was a verbal exchange between the suspect and Rodeman moments before the incident.

“The suspect came by, was upset for whatever reason (and) circled back around” before running into the firefighter, Kraus said. “The preliminary investigation is that he deliberately hit the firefighter who was standing in the road, collecting for the charity.”

The suspect, who was driving a small pickup truck, continued north on Cedar Street and eventually was stopped in the 3100 block of Lawdor Road, Lansing police Capt. Darin Southworth said in a news release. He ran from the vehicle and was caught by officers.”

If it isn’t, no one will come back to this thread . . . so you’re clear.

I have never thought standing in the middle of the road collecting money for charity was a good idea...

Read the story. The guy in the pickup pulled alongside. There was a verbal exchange. The guy in the pickup drove ahead, U-turned, and came back to hit him deliberately.

I am surprised more do not get killed. If any of us tried to stand in the roadway to solicit funds, we'd be arrested. Firefighters should be no exception and should stop doing so. Get off the road!

And if this person intentionally targeted the firefighter, I hope they rot in jail.

First degree murder? Sounds like the driver had a brief period to make his plan, turn his vehicle around and come back to run over the victim. Not good!

Does Michigan have the death penalty? If not, it should.

Certainly is a pretty tidy blackout of any data on the suspect.

While it is only my supposition, I bet it is more blood on the shoulders of Obummer and his “Black Lives Matter” dirtbags. The guy is pure evil.

Standing in traffic, creating an unsafe situation, and causing delays for already frustrated commuters who would immediately be arrested if they tried to do the same thing is just one more way firefighters and police flaunt the fact that some animals are more equal than others; having been in this situation while coming home from work, I can understand why someone might get angry. But cold blooded murder is obviously not an appropriate channel for that anger, and the perp should rot in jail.

Read the story.

I did. Now you read my comment, which had nothing to do with how events played out. If they hadn't been in the road in the first place, the opportunity for the psycho to run down the fireman wouldn't have presented itself in the first place...if they had chosen a SAFER venue to raise funds; odds are he would still be alive.
