Trump has a point, the court offered to remove her name from the license giving her an accommodation to do her job. I think it is more than reasonable. I don't agree with same sex marriage but as long as the government is going to be in the marriage license biz the government has to issue a same sex license.
If she were a Muslim and refused to issue a liquor license with her name on the license would everyone feel the same way?

changing the law will require a constitutional amendment; which is not going to happen. So the States should just get out of the marriage license biz or change the name of the license to cjvil Union and allow it to be purchased on line so employees are not involved in the process.

If the law clearly allowed muslims to opt out and she was given a pass up front, then fine. No problem.

The problem occurs when an illegal order from the SCOTUS comes down requiring her to give up her freedom of religion AND violate state law.

Where did you read that? I have read nothing of that sort. I have read that the Licenses would go out with her name on them.

How can it be otherwise? She is the County clerk and the document isn't legal till she affirms it. This is done by her signature, or in her name by a deputy clerk.

I argued this point here on FR long before the SCOTUS decision. Next up is polygamy. It’s only a matter of time.

If religious exemptions aren’t going to be honored, then how can the Catholic church stop women from being priests? If any other business didn’t hire someone for a job because she was a woman, they would be sued.

The reality is we have religious exemptions to all kinds of laws and regulations and they are allowed to be based on gender. Not allowing this woman to have a religious exemption goes against our history, tradition and arguably the first amendment.

If you buy the Supreme Court’s ruling, this is still a case of two amendments clashing. And in that case, the first amendment should take precedence based on seniority.

No, it doesn't. The congress has the Constitutional authority to declare marriage a matter beyond the jurisdiction of the Federal courts, which it is, being something not enumerated in the Constitution.

Please cite a source for this accommodation. Because that is exactly what she is asking for, legally.
