The Summer of Trump Has Republican Contenders Seeking a September Reset

Jeb Bush revealed his intentions early in December and the money quickly poured in. Scott Walker made a big splash at a speech to social conservatives in Iowa in January. Marco Rubio jumped in the race with great fanfare in April.

For the rest of the spring, the Republican primary race was the Bush-Walker-Rubio show, with the former Florida governor, the Wisconsin governor and the Florida senator dominating the polls. Each made a compelling case to the base, and each was viewed as acceptable to the party establishment.

Then, on June 16, Donald Trump jumped in the race.

As the GOP contest moves past Labor Day and summer vacation season, the three erstwhile leaders of the pack have sunk below not only Trump but, in one recent poll, retired brain surgeon Ben Carson and Texas Senator Ted Cruz. With just five months to go before the first nominating contest in Iowa, and another debate looming next week, the candidates with the most polished resumes and deepest-pocketed backers are all trying to find ways to stage fall comebacks.

"It does kind of indicate how politics has been turned on its head," said Vin Weber, a GOP strategist and former congressman who is supporting Bush. "All of us—pundits, journalist, everyone—we may have underestimated the anti- establishment mood dramatically."

Ya think?

If Walker and the others are really bright they'll drive a stake through the Yeb campaign's heart now.

If Trump stumbles or gets bored Bush will be right there with all that money and party support. This way if Trump decides to get out it'll be anybodies race.

Right now the only one who seems to understand that is Cruz.

The GOP establishment is deeply despised by conservatives.

To paraphrase Harry Truman - this has been the “Do-Nothing” GOP Congress.

RCP Average has Bush, 6.4, in 5th, 20 behind Trump (26.4). I am sure some common core math will overcome the deficit.

Worse than that, it’s the complicit Congress.

The Uniparty is upset that an outsider like Trump dares to intrude on their private racket.

Do they poll everybody or just registered Republicans.

I think most of Bush’s potential voters are Democrats ready to cross over in OpChaos 2106 and install the softest target.

I’ve never heard anything so stupid in my life....Trump, fortunately for all of those ‘unbelievers’, is going to win and end up in the White House January 20, 2016....

Vin Weber and the rest of the employees of The Cheap Labor Express seriously underestimated the anti-amnesty rage of the citizens.
They thought they could rig the primaries to force us to hold our noses for another cheap labor importer.

We The People want the illegal alien inundation stopped.

Trump may not be the best wrench in the toolbox for every job, but he will suffice to throw into the wheels of The Cheap Labr Express.

Will the Trump Summer be followed by a Trump Fall or by Trump’s fall? As long as Jeb/Rubio/Christie/Kasich doesn’t step in, I’m happy, but I hope Cruz is the one with the right strategy to profit from Trump’s huge anti-establishment backing.

Rhetorical ?:

How does a three day weekend suddenly change the hearts and minds of the American public regarding political opinion?

Trump speaking on the USS Iowa does that.

Will TV attack ads help the GOPe, I’m hoping America will be able to see through that as well and am encourage by the rejection of all dirty tricks to date.

Go Cruz
Go Trump

Some polls poll Inds as well. That is why Bush is as high as8-10 in some where he is 5-6 in GOP onlys.

I see where CNN has amended the criteria for getting into their debate. They
were expecting a larger number of polls being taken and there hasn’t been.
The new changes will put Carly on the main stage.
