VIENNA Pope Francis on Sunday called on every parish, religious community, monastery and sanctuary in Europe to shelter refugees fleeing death from war and hunger, adding that the Vaticans two parishes would lead the way by taking in two families.
In a speech to thousands of people in St. Peters Square, the pope said it was not enough to say have courage, hang in there to those marching toward what he described as lifes hope.
Referring to the tragedy of tens of thousands of refugees that flee death in conflict and hunger and are on a journey of hope, Francis said, according to Vatican Radio, the Gospel calls us to be close to the smallest and to those who have been abandoned. He specifically asked that the European bishops support the effort.

“A Catholic, of which I am one, had to be an idiot not to smell a rat when Benedict suddenly resigned”.
You are correct. And the smell only gets worse.
The Vatican should be able to open up that great big courtyard to a tent city. Those great big halls there should be able to handle thousands.
Go for it your holiness...
Well wait and see how that works out for you.
On condition that the refugees convert to Roman Catholicism and give at least one child to the religious life.
Went down to see my father in a Medical Center in Los Angeles.
I was entering an elevator, and saw a guy out of the corner of my eye just three seconds from the door. I waved my arm and held the door for a moment. In walked Mahoney.
LOL
Mahony is still alive. He celebrated Mass on Mother’s Day at Nazareth House, God Bless ‘im.
One child per family, that is.
Pope encourages Europe to become dhimmis and assist in the jihad takeover.
and Argentina....
OK - which one do you ant?
The Pope needs understand the Syrians have their own destinations and it’s not Catholic Parishes....they are headed to European countries that are wealthy. Germany especially because their next move will be Britain from their.
Merkle knows that the thousands coming to her country will not be happy living in Military Barracks .....that is not going to satisfy them as they seek a life as they once knew in Syria and this with expectations European nations owe them this.
Syrians have limited understanding of what a refugee is....they see themselves as remaining in whatever country of their choosing...and this with expectations they will go into jobs and work as they had in Syria.
The Pope and Nation Leaders know this is a temporary fix....Syrians do not.
Unless they were invited and desired by the people of the nations they are going to, it’s called an invasion with a dose of treason.
European secularists and Catholics housing Muslims like they are lost puppies - victims of their own Satanic faith - probably won’t work out well.
How many immigrants has Argentina offered to take?
What are they going to think now when they find themselves in Germany's Military Barracks as the refugees that they are? And just how long before they show this same behavior and demand more of Germany...as they surely will.
Unfortunately Merkle and other leaders like her fail to understand the nature of these people and their expectations of what they believe they are due.
Absolutely right. Families with small boys and girls should open their homes to animals from third world countries who practice pedophilia. What could go wrong?
That video should be seen by everyone.
For those “Catholics” who are bashing the Pope :
He’s not speaking on these issues from the Chair of Peter (regarding faith and morals). It’s not an infallible teaching. You can look at it and disagree and still be a faithful Catholic.
To disagree and then take the leap to bash the entire Church, abandon the Eucharist and ultimately leave the Church, is a huge mistake.
Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. Most people that leave the Catholic Church, do so because of what they “think” the Church stands for, not for the reality of what it stands for.
For my fellow Christians.....
What does Jesus want us, as Christians to do?
I don’t claim to have the answer, but I think cultivating a serious Prayer life is the first step.
The stakes are too high to think we have the wisdom ourselves to make the right decisions (either politically, militarily or individually).
Has the pope called upon Muslims to stop killing Christians? Not much. STFU Frankie.
Well Said!!
I couldn’t see the reason the men were rejecting the food and water.
