Everything you want to know about Donald Trump's bankruptcies
CNN-Money ^ | September 1, 2015 | Chris Isidore

Posted on 09/06/2015 2:12:30 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

".... Trump claims that successful businesses file for bankruptcy all the time. At the debate he said "virtually every person that you read about on the front page of the business sections, they've used the [bankruptcy] law."

But the facts don't back that comment up.

Despite high profile examples, including General Motors (GM), Lehman Brothers and most of the nation's major airlines, fewer than 20% of public companies with assets of $1 billion or more have filed for bankruptcy in the last 30 years, according to data from Bankruptcy.com and S&P Capital IQ.

Trump has never filed for personal bankruptcy. But he has filed four business bankruptcies, which Bankruptcy.com says makes Trump the top filer in recent decades. All of them were centered around casinos he used to own in Atlantic City. They were all Chapter 11 restructurings, which lets a company stay in business while shedding debt it owes to banks, employees and suppliers...."

Here's a look at Trump's bankruptcy track record.

But he scares the politicians I hate and that works for me.

This is the absolute thinnest of attributes...

what if he scares your enemies because he should scare any thinking adult?

Yours and so manny others here’re pursuing a form of “lets-stick-it-to-em-ism”
If disaster comes down on your head too I cannot imagine how much comfort there will be in this.

What “credentials” are you talking about? Cruz has never run a business nor made a billion, let alone ten billion. Cruz is expert in Constitutional Law, but he lacks experience in the “real world.” So whose credentials are in question when it comes to running the largest business in the world, the USA?

So, you obviously don’t like Trump. That’s very clear.

It’s also very clear that you blindly follow your masters in the Republican party.

Do you know why we find ourselves in the position we are currently in as far as our freedoms and liberties along with a horrible economy? The answer to that question is that the Republicans are responsible since they have done absolutely nothing to thwart the Marxist drive by the liberals to enslave us all....ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

In the last election we (as a nation) gave them one last chance to do the will of the people and they played the Lucy and peanuts football game with us. They (along with most politicians) are totally corrupt and their loyalty is only to themselves and any individual, organization, business or entity that will enrich both their power and financial standing.

This upcoming election is not about personalities, it’s about choosing a leader who actually will do the will of the people and hopefully save our country and heritage. That person is Donald Trump and he is not in bed with the Chamber of Commerce, Fat cats, Special interest groups, and a whole host of other parasites upon the American way of life.

You and I have been on this forum for many years and recently I have noticed a marked change in your conservative and reasoned opinions toward any attack on the Republican RINOs and GOPe zealots.

We are simply Americans trying to save our country and professional career politicians are definitely not the ones to do it. We need someone with “real world” experience and there is no one in “professional” politics who has it.

If this is so you wouldn't embrace the Marxist would you?

strangely you have embraced someone who can work quite well with the Marxists. Trump has often sounded like them because he doesn't care who is in power, as long as he is allowed to make $. He also figures he can still make more $ than they will be able to redistribute. And he has,Bending the bankruptcy laws for his benefit was a piece of cake that worked all too well. And the Marxist don't really care because who better to take the $ from?

this a down the road & think about it comment.

That pos in the WH loves to spend money on his pet causes-domestic and internationally .

Right now the f*ckin’ gov’t can’t balance it’s own damn
checkbook and as a nation we are overdrawn. We need someone like The Donald (if elected) to start crunching some numbers & put our country back to work.
What is wrong with running the USA like a successful business ? oh, I forgot-it’s the politicians who are in the middle of this fiasco .

As of Sept 2015 there are 94million who are not participating in the work force.

So this msm perv castigates The Donald who is a self-made man for f*ckin’ bankruptcies ?

I’d like to see that msm perv put Mitt Romney on the grill and ask him how much revenue filtered down to his offshore
accounts by selling porn tv re; Marriot Corporation(you can look this up yerself)

At some point something has to give. Who will attempt at “cleaning house” of a lot of corrupt politicians and judges on the state & federal level?

There’s layers upon layers of issues state & federal that confront us on a everyday basis and it’s tough sometimes and it’s all so confusing if one cannot expose the liars that has created these layers.

It’s sad isn’t it that pos in the wh by mere virtue of being in office has NOT ONLY sold this country down the river to islamo-facists and enobled them by giving them high positions of significant influence in the US gov’t
but now has brokered a treasonous deal with Iran to the tune of 150mil/bill all expense paid trip that threatens the fuckin’ Free World in it’s entirety.

I have been here quite a while...but I may just do that if you guys keep doing what your doing....
You have to admit there is a fairly serious split on FR. It saddens me but you guys seem to wallow in it because for you the so called GOPe is a bigger enemy that the liberals....

So who is your “guy”, you know the perfect be all to end all candidate?

This is why we lose to the other (evil) side, if candidate “A” is not perfect in every way, if he dares not support my every dream position, then he is crap and we pile on and trash them into oblivion.

I for one and sick of the same ole same ole, lies and backstabbing, sure Mr Trump is no saint, but he is the one that stuck a stick in the hornet nest and rattled the hell out of the WHOLE sick system.

You don’t get it. Trump is a liar and will say anything to get elected, kinda like a politician.

Well surely then you can point out all his lies...I would think if Trump is lying it would be all over Fox and CNN...But point out those lies so we can know why you feel the way you do about Trump...

Nothing to do with Trump but this article is like an Obama strawman. The author says 1 in 5 PUBLIC companies with a balance sheet fatter than $1b have filed these past 30 years as if thats a small number. One in five is a GIANT number, several thousand percent greater than personal bankruptcies.

Second, he seems to think that somehow this sheds light on PRIVATE company filings. These casino deal are called SPE’s - they are created as “bankruptcy remote” vehicles to do off balance sheet deals specifically because everyone knows they can go DOWN DOWN DOWN, If you lend into the capital stack of an off balance sheet casino development you are using private money, not bank debt - no bank could ever do that. No public company could ever do that unless they had so much cash to put to work no one would care. You are lending at a very high yield coupon and accept all risk of default knowing your “promoter” isn’t pledged personally. The lenders are killers and the promoters are good track record people but all involved know what can happen. It’s all in a days work for a guy like Icahn or any other Hedge guy. And you can bet your tail that he sees nothing like a 1 in 5 rate of crash. Nothing like it.

Third, we’re talking 4 spe’s. How many deals do you think Trumps done over the years? 100? thats 4%. 200? thats 2%. 400? thats 1%. I’d guess its more than 400 but don’t know. Can you tell me anyone in any field of endeavor that has a success rate of over 99% ? You know Ben Carson doesn’t. You know NASA doesn’t. This article is an attempt by someone that knows nothing of which he;s discussing to try and make someone look bad. The only one that looks bad here is the author.

Lastly, inadvertently the article shows that Trump was actually a stand up guy in these Chapter 11’s. He’s still best buds with Icahn, proof enough. Each time he took a significant haircut, reduced ownership and sold assets. He took it on the chin and the Hedgies got losses to offset the capital gains taxes that they pay. Many operators back in the day before the laws changed would have collected all revenue in cash, buried it in coffee cans, burned the books, paid no one and left the taxpayers with the payroll tax bill.

........................................................

You don’t get it. Disaster has already come down on our heads and candidate after candidate would just be another disaster. Anyone who likes Bush or Rubio is Republican Establishment and we have had ENOUGH of Rep.E! Frankly, I like Bobby Jindal above any of the other governors, but he doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell. So I am looking for someone who, warts and all, has the ability to turn this ship of state around. The ONLY one I see who just might succeed is Trump. I have been privy to wheelings and dealings among Billionaires and understand how they think...what makes them tick. You’re not going to get a “Pure” conservative anywhere. So buckle up and hang on for the ride if Trump gets in. We just might see the destruction of the Washington elite which is what we really want to happen after all. Under Trump...and a strong VP....Cruz perhaps.....Sarah Palin in the mix, Allen West, and others Trump likes, we’ll be rid of Boehner, McConnell, Reid, Pelosi, and the rest of the Washington crowd who give me acid reflux.

Go Cruz. {Not you wifey, stay away from Cruz, he doesn't want your jinx}.

These types are wanting the same result again. I don’t even know now who is the most plain loser that’s trying this time. But these types are sure to narrow it down to that.
...........................................................

They want Bush and or Rubio. That has been evident since before the campaign opened. The media pushes Bush and Rubio but either would be a sure loser and a disaster. Yes, Florida is at stake, but it will not vote for Common Core or Amnesty. That’s what Bush/Rubio and the Washington Establishment stand for and the media insists we need.

“Experts told us Trump is either implicitly supporting a single-payer system or putting his foot in his mouth.”.....”

Doesn’t matter. You can post all the anti Trump stuff all you
want I am not going to vote for Bush. If Trump wins the
primary and is on the ballot I will vote for him. Same for
Cruz and a couple of other candidates. But no matter how
hard you try, I will not vote for another Bush.

You just can’t go around impuning large populations of fellow freepers with sincere motivation. Trolls do that.

I am the opposite of a group thinker. What is happening on FreeRepublic is a large group of Freepers have independently come to the same conclusion.

...and what you might consider inexcusable fact is being filtered out through the understanding of how gotcha questions, political correctness and the politics of personal destruction are deployed by the left, the GOPe and the MSM to annoint our overlords.

We, on the side of Trump are here through a more rigorous and logical process than you can conceive.

At the end of the day, and through a rigorous evaluation of the facts I’ve personally determined Donald Trump is the best (not perfect) option to save my country and preserve the American Dream for future generations.
