Gov’t Accuses Company Of Discrimination Over Employees Having To Prove Citizenship Status
The Washington Free Beacon ^ | 09/03/15 | Joe Schoffstall

The Department of Justice has accused a business of discrimination due to the company requiring employees to show proof of citizenship for employment.

The DOJ claims that Nebraska Beef Ltd., a Nebraska-based meat packing company, “required non-U.S. citizens, but not similarly-situated U.S. citizens, to present specific documentary proof of their immigration status to verify their employment eligibility.”

After receiving pressure from the government, Nebraska Beef agreed to pay $200,000 in a civil penalty settlement and said they will establish an uncapped back pay fund for people who lost wages because they could not prove they are in the country legally.

The settlement also requires the business to undergo compliance monitoring for two years, train employees on the anti-discrimination provision within the Immigration and Nationality Act, and to revise policies within its office.

It’s called E-Verify and it’s against the law to employ illegal aliens..

By using everything at their disposal such as E-Verify to identify and determine whether or not s potential employee is an illegal alien or not, the business stays out of trouble with the government for employing and aiding and abetting an illegal alien....

So, when did the status check for employment end? I must be way behind on things. Does Social Security send notice when there is a duplication or other problem with the SS numbers on W4’s anymore? Or, does it matter?

And some here still cling to the lame position that we can address our illegal aliens problem by regulating businesses who employ illegals—by requiring that they comply with law.

Here a business that tried to do exactly that and got popped.

“Department of Justice” ... George Orwell, please pick up the white courtesy phone.
Next time someone gets on their high horse and says that County Clerks must comply with the law, remind them that the law itself doesn’t comply with the law.

This is nuts. Federal law requires that I check citizenship status of all employees. That’s what the I-9 form is for.

That is disgusting. It’s a terrible thing when the most powerful government in the world goes over to the dark side (I hope “dark side” isn’t racist now too).

There isn’t enough room in the nations prisons to hold all the administration sycophants who have committed crimes against America during Obama’s tenure. I wonder if Devil’s Island is for rent?

The company should have required all employees to prove their citizenship. That would have addressed the discrimination part of it.

How can Loretta Lynch and the DOJ be stopped from this outrage? We have more to fear from inside than from any foreign country.

Exactly; this reeks of the government stunts with mortgages. Force banks to lend to high-risk minorities, then sue them for taking advantage of said high-risk minorities when they default. Absolutely ridiculous (and more than a little frightening because it is done so openly)...

The aerospace company I retired from three years ago was required to do background checks on any “Non-U.S.” persons by the Federal government. Something smells a bit off here.

because they could not prove they are in the country legally.

In other words they were here illegally. How in the heck can you NOT prove you are here legally if you are?

Yes, we are required to fill out the Federal form. This makes no sense.
