So this is not the “hill to die on”, right? It’s funny, I remember so many people on this site going ballistic because the GOP kept telling us, “give us a majority and we will do X, Y and Z,” and then when they got the majority and refused to do X, Y and Z, they kept telling us, “This isn’t the hill to die on.”

So my question is, what is the hill we are willing to die on? What are the principles that are so dear to us that we are willing to draw the line in the sand? Apparently, for many on this site, marriage isn’t it; abortion isn’t it; religious liberty isn’t it; property rights isn’t it. In fact, if I were to base my opinion on what I have seen here lately, it seems like the only “hill to die on” for a lot of people here is immigration. And they are willing to sacrifice everything else on the chance they MIGHT accomplish something on that front.

For those on this site that oppose this woman because gay marriage is “the law of the land”, and feel this is not the hill to die on - just remember that birthright citizenship is also the “law of the land” - should we just move on?

There are no hills. Trump is to gullible conservatives as Obama was to lofo leftists.

I, for one, would like to see a Republican president to go along with a GOP Congress.

This is not the issue to get there.

The reality of politics is that it is about what is possible. Nothing we want to do is possible without the White House. And some of it is not possible even then.

It wouldn’t nice if the general electorate agreed with the right wing. But they don’t and we have to accept that and change hearts and minds.

An elected official abusing her power is not the right person.

"...First, whenever we get to that elusive and ever-receding “hill to die on,” we will discover, upon our arrival there, that it only looked like a hill to die on from a distance. Up close, when the possible dying is also up close, it kind of looks like every other hill. All of a sudden it looks like a hill to stay alive on, covered over with topsoil that looks suspiciously like common ground.

So it turns out that surrendering hills is not the best way to train for defending the most important ones. Retreat is habit-forming."
